Wow. "Language" is a really excellent answer, sabinati. It's not the one I was looking for, but I think it's even better than the original. How often can you say that?

My answer (from a six year old) was "Smiles" because there's a mile between the first and last letter.

Cheers.

I'm rarely touched but often held. If you have wit, you'll use me well.

umm, i may be wrong, but i dont think sabinati said that for an answer???
(the "smile" answer is the one i was thinking of, "smiles" and "mile" being very simple beginners words make it very popular here to use this riddle for "the ~est" grammar pattern practice.)

After some dwarven pondering (an' lots of alcohol):
The dwarves are both on fire, the first one extinguishes the fire with his ale, the second one hedonistically prefers to enjoy every sip of his mug, but alas, burns to cinders. Good thing the barkeep was thinking quickly, not serving them whisky.

As much as I love Dorfing, and this answer, it is sadly incorrect. The actual answer is quite a bit less elaborate.
I think it's made of bubbles and hate.

@Tonkyhonk

Incorrect.

While you try to think of another answer, I will leave you with one more riddle before I leave for work.

Often will I spin a tale, never will I charge a fee. I'll amuse you an entire eve, but, alas you won't remember me.
