in all seriousness, the most drastic jump in tech/quality (blazing though the "early game") comes from your first bear skin and set of bear bones. from a bear kill you can get:

q100+ bonesaw, a significant boost to leather quality, herb table quality, barrel quality, and so many more.
bear cape - a huge bonus to mining and a nominal bonus to pvp.
slings made from bear leather/bear hide straps - another enormous jump in quality comes here, making future bear kills easier.
and of course, village idols (if nothing else the extra logistical bonus from traveling to idol makes a huge difference in collecting materials and so forth)

swimming bears would have been much better at the start of world 7, but the sooner the better
