Well then, by all means, continue the conversation. Don't let me stop you.

The thing is that the Goons have effectively changed the entire game dynamic just by doing what they are doing... let me explain:

-First, it is pretty much now a requirement that you have to pay the Goons or belong to a town that does just to avoid being destroyed. Pretty much any new person is going to have to be warned about them since there isn't really a decent way to avoid them. Something like that shouldn't be allowed to happen in the first place... it changes the entire way the game is played and it's not even a feature.

-Second, they effectively negate the entire stealing/PvP/tracking system. Here's how it's supposed to work... someone steals something which is a risk because the owner may be able to track them and seek retribution. It depends solely on what skills and their levels of the person whose property it is. Because of the Goons, you have to add the variable that if that town/property is protected, the Goons are going to hunt you down instead... which means its a huge risk to even attempt to steal/murder.

I do realize that you can have friends help you also but whats the point when the Goons will just do it for you? Since everyone has to pay the Goons a tax to stay productive anyway, and there is no way to know what towns/properties are protected, that means stealing for anyone is completely worthless and ruins that aspect of the game for everyone except the goons.

There was a conversation..?

All I heard was you jerking off over the idea of total war.
CG62 wrote:So, does anyone realize that the only way to definitively end this is to wage total war upon the opposing side?

No, not just normal war. TOTAL war. Devote EVERY WAKING MOMENT to conquering the enemy, waste no time on anything else. It's nearly impossible to wage total war, I assure you.

And even a policy of total war might not bring this to a close. With my limited knowledge of the goons (I am, indeed, quite the newfag), I know that they have the strength of numbers. Even if, conceivably, EVERY SINGLE COMBAT-READY PERSON IN THE HEARTHLANDS were to band together to wage war upon the goons, this might actually server to BOLSTER their numbers, giving people a reason to join other than the occasional grief-hit or just to play.

So yeah, make preparations for this while I go grab some popcorn and a foldy-chair.

EDIT:

If this does actually happen, I will be amazed. It could be one of the first major wars in H&H history!

CG62 wrote:Not a temporary fix, like a bribe or tribute.

An actual, definitive conclusion to whatever griefing and other such annoyances the Goons may or may not be commiting.

That, and I REAAAAALLLY wanna see a large scale war. The Pie Crusades aren't looking too well.

CG62 wrote:War =/= Raiding.

War and raids oftentimes go hand-in-hand with unprofessional armies, sure.

But war isn't a bunch of guys going around hitting random cities for profit and lulz. There is an objective, a goal. In this case, it would be to completely obliterate every one of the opposing side's men. Neutral parties stand at risk in this, but then again, they always do.

So, should you find yourself in the warpath of the goons, or of a less organized tangent of the... "non-goons"(?), all I can say is:
-Gather your valuables and run to a safe haven (because there will likely be at least one or two major neutral factions)
-Same, but retreat into the wilderness
-Build thick, THICK walls
-Pay a tribute or a tax

CG62 wrote:^This.

A war is pretty much inevitable at this point.

CG62 wrote:We need to form a large neutral faction, a faction that will not take part in the coming war in any way other than perhaps watch a few of the battles.

This neutral faction would require a functioning military, considering how things often go for neutral factions in wars.

CG62 wrote:The great pie crusade has been canceled in light of present events.

I'm not sure the playerbase can handle more than one major war at a time.

The idea that goons can't be avoided or that you absolutely must pay them is preposterous. The idea that all combat oriented players demand tribute is pretty dumb too. Just because the goons found your village doesn't make them invincible.or omnipresent. I'm sorry your village was raided and that Gaiadin was killed, but it did lead to the death of Delamore and they aren't a lot better off than you guys at this point.

Instead of making the game less open ended I think people need to recognize that just as production of items is important, defending yourself is important too. just because the goons are murderous thugs doesn't mean you absolutely must pay them. in fact I dont know about any villages that have actually paid Delamore except for innsmouth , which their lawspeaker at the time did just to gain his confidence and spy on them.

in short, rather than asking for the mechanics of the game to be changed you should use those same mechanics to right the wrongs committed against you.

Yuki, it seems to me as if the general consensus is that a war is already/MUST happen in order to smooth this shit out.

Also, if I were to take some of your words out of context I could make you seem like an idiot, too.
