None of the countries you quoted has/had a secular government, and none has a government representative of its population/society.

Syria is officially secular and has freedom of religion.

Other three, as I said, are/were oriented towards secular society. They are more secular than religious.

Egypt. Look at this photo. Do these women look like they live in a religious Muslim country? No. In 2007 Egyptian constitution was changed to prohibit political parties based on religion.

Both in Libya and Iraq education is/was secular and free. Both Sadam and Gaddafi were opponents of Islamic revolution and fundamentalism. The main reason of Iran-Iraq war was Islamic Revolution in Iran and its possible spread to Iraq. Sadam did a lot to restrain religious tension and to prevent islamist to enter the country.

edit : nvm, wrong definition. So to answer your point about secularity :
Syria funds/helps religious terrorist organizations. Egypt was ok on that. Irak and Lybia, not so much. Those two were personal dictatorship and, if you look closely, you'll see that they used whatever floated their boats to float their boat. Ghaddafi was a pan-arabist befor turning to supporter of african union, in the process naming his son Saif al-Islam. Saddam Hussein used religion in his cult of personality. Point is, though, I still don't understand why you're pointing this out : You don't need religion to be a ruthless dictator.
As for prosperity and social wellbeing, except maybe Egypt (which is a controversial case), all the countries you quoted are/were obvious dictatorships turning their weapons against their people. So unless you think killing people makes them feel better...

By the way, if you look at HDI numbers, you'll see that they incorporate GDP in their calculation, which heavily pushes oil producers with low pop (lybia, saudi arabia, norway, for instance). besides, I don't see where you saw their indice was comparable to western europe countries (which are .1 to .15 above).

UbertheNoob needs to change the title of this thread to Al-Jazeera FanFiction: The re-writing of history by American hating (because they are jealous of our penis size) no nothing, illiterate idealogues.

Bloodthirsty much? How about not making this about revenge and taking the higher moral ground and delivering him to Geneva to face War Crimes. Of course we are now becoming what we fight so instead we shoot him and shove his body in the ocean.

That will show the epic-ness of Western Ideals! Derp Derp
