and honestly, with the painting analogy, you could paint something amazing and you'd have a lot of amazing artistic ability, but if someone created something amazing that was generated using a computer, that would be amazing too, because that takes skill also. this isn't an argument for botting, it's simply a different way of looking at your example here.

My analogy had more to do with the making. Sorry it wasn't fleshed out. Think of the difference between painting and printing assuming you already have a digital file. It takes no effort to print it whilst it takes much effort to paint it and create the same effect. That is the analogy. It cheapens the core game. Thats only conditionally true if only some people bot though. If everyone botted it would be a different story but everyone doesn't so that creates a divide between players.

Its merely that the argument can be made that thus it diminishes the accomplishment of the work. I think that's what tonky meant. Now what is left is to discuss what should be done about the game and if this is an acceptable state. I think not.

It doesn't. Its how it makes the game different in an unintended an unequal way that does. You are welcome to talk to me at length about this. I am not here to flame which I can only assume is your assumption because many are in this thread. I am here to discuss what the effects of botting are and what the game is and should be not whether it is right or wrong. Specific questions are best.

if I thought u were here to just flame I'd not waste my time.

I only asked the above, because I personally don't tend to care how people play or what they use. I used the vanilla client for a whole world, even though it placed me at a HUGE disadvantage. it didn't matter to me that others had amazing clients to use because I still enjoyed this game. And even the previous worlds we knew ppl botted, we knew it gave them some advantage over what we could achieve, but honestly, we didn't care. I didn't see what difference it made to me as a player. it didn't effect what I was doing, or how I enjoyed the game. I choose to play this game in a specific way that most think doesn't work, but we manage to find like minded ppl and we set a game play to suit our style.

this is why I don't get why ppl get sensitive over this issue, unless it does directly mess up their game play.
and also because I see how excited ppl like xcom get at scripting, and how this game easily allows scripts to work, and beyond that how he doesn't use it to get hq stuff, or to get ahead, it's primarily to test, to create projects, to do things which are pretty damn amazing, whether it was a bot or not, the detail and attention and amount of work that went into something like the maze last world was incredible. he's not there trying to ruin people's fun, or destroy the game because he chooses to bot, scripting is fun for him.

so what negative experience do u feel u've had ingame that related to bots?

What do you think a legit player thinks about everytime they hear about village making 500 wrought in an hour or people making batches of like 2000 MBC a week or farming trolls and golden eggs everyday...

it makes you feel like there is no point in playing.

This is a competitive game and for people to have interest in playing there needs to be competition... how can I compete against pearl bots? people getting 60 pearls a day when it took me weeks to get my amulet.

We used over 500 wrought on our walls and over 10,000 bricks... do you know how long that takes to do manually? do you realize how infuriating it is to learn that the major villages can make 500 wrought in an hour?

I also used vanilla client in my first world too. As far as negative experience its not my negative experience but the impact on the game as a whole I am referring to. No one would doubt that the maze project took an amazing amount of work and that in no way diminishes it. The way the game stands botting is an almost necessity for the amount of time needed. Its what stickman said it ruins the competition. Im not concerned about your bots because you arent a pvp faction. Its how the factions use bots to overpower the new players who actually want to play the game. It might work if everyone botted or it would work if no one botted but there is no middle ground. But anything in between there is no competition. This game lives on competition. This isn't about dictating how people play but having a discussion about how the game works and if that should change so it is a better more equal game that encourages competition. You sound a little angry imo.

I think it takes a special kind of person to somehow delude themselves that they are not ruining the game for everyone by botting or supporting the botting of their village mates.

im not deluding myself. I am asking a question. because I realise the way I play and how I think about this game is different to others.

And yes I get that making that much in an hour or whatever through botting is insane and disheartening. But why should it make someone not botting not make enough for their use? do you normally need 500 wrought? I know we don't. we might have it, most of the time it goes to random projects and people who need it, and it's stored for whenever it maybe useful to use, but I cant imagine anyone or town seriously needing that much

And trust me, I know how much time and effort it takes to manually make bricks and everything else in this game, cause as I've said before, we did it all manually last world. more than 10k, over a weeks period, draining node after node, 10 or so players, active, playing till all hours, burning bricks and building to get it done. sniper wall, and inside wall. plus other walls we made to protect nodes and whatever else we needed it for. did that put us at an advantage cause we had players who would play all day and night? or that there was 10 or so of us doing it? everything was done manually, and we had a system that was efficient for most things to ensure we were producing what we needed because of trading.

anyhow, it's merely for me to understand, im not trying to be a bitch about it and I hope it's not coming across that way.
