Well, I did not want to create a new thread for this game so I decided I would post about it here. I'd first like to begin by saying that this game was created in October of 2000 and was more or less in a fully playable state in 2002/2003 (
Source). It is a
2D TOP-DOWN ROLE PLAYING GAME, so please, if you do happen to give it a try just keep that in mind.
Without further adieu, I present:
RPG World OnlineSome of you will recognize this game because I posted about Haven & Hearth on the Rpgwo forum and I do believe I was successful in getting some people to come over. Now I aim to turn that around!
Here's some information:

Features of the game copied directly from
here. (With some elaboration/editing by me):
What is RPG World Online?RPG World Online (RPGWO) is an online, persistent, multi-player(50-100?), role playing game. It is written entirely in Visual Basic and uses API for graphics and Direct Sound for sound. My motto or driving goal is to create a simulation type world with RPG gameplay, thus: “Where simulation meets gameplay!” It is a dynamic world. Maps can be changed and almost all items and such can be made and/or destroyed. An empty world in which players can build it the way they want!Basic Features• Player improvement and development based on an experience gaining system through combat or use of the player's skills. Spendable experience points also gained are then used to raise your life/stamina/mana or attributes. (Strength, Dexterity, Quickness, Intelligence, Wisdom)
• Combat : Melee, Missile, and Magic based. (Examples: Sword, Scythe, Bow, Dagger, Black Magic, Crossbow, Throwing)
• Magic : Offense, Defense, Temporary Attribute/Skill Boosting, Healing, Warping, etc.
• Global, Private and Local Chat system
• Day/Night effects with lighting
• Various damage and armor types including elemental
• Wilderness monsters in open land
• Quests/Dungeons with special items/loot as reward
Advanced Features• Dynamic world and maps that can be changed online by Administrators and by players using trade skills such as Farming, Carpentry or Masonry.
• Trade skills : Blacksmith, Farming, Mining, Jewelery Making, Alchemy, Cooking, etc.
• Item usage system that allows almost all items to be created or manipulated
• Multiple Underground Layer Mining System
• Land ownership
• Tames : Pack Mules, Traders and Monsters
• Events (Sieges, Last Man Standing, Capture The Flag)
• Mail System
• Guilds
• Stealth Skill allows for complete invisibility from other players and monsters (Counteracted through use of the scan skill, which monsters perform automatically)
• Flexible game system, allows variation in world types
A bit of instruction in case you're confused on how to get started:
The
download page offers a variety of links, some of which include the server files to run your very own Rpgwo server, but if you aren't particularly concerned about that and would just like to download the client, here is a direct link:
http://www.rpgwo.com/download/client.setup.zip.
You may also notice there is a "RPGWO V5 File" portion to the list, which is just something the game developer has recently begun work on and I believe is up for testing as he continues to work on it. It is NOT the right download link for the version of game I want you to play however.

This is the current server list. Both servers are similar in that they are both Fantasy based and include the use of Magic, otherwise though they are both administrated by completely different people. The Phoenix server just opened Friday (June 20) and is hosted by the game's creator himself and administrated by one other person. Hexed is hosted and run by another individual not actually affiliated with the creation of the game. It has also been running for quite some time now and has a greater volume of high level players. I'll let you decide which one you wish to play although I'll just let you know that I am currently playing on Phoenix.
I won't be offering instruction on things like character creation and so forth via this forum because some people enjoy figuring those things out on their own and frankly I just don't feel like going in to that much detail. I will however be as much as help as I can within the game itself.
Some Partings Words...
This game has been in a dying state for several years now. It's not that there aren't people still around who want to play it, it's just been running for so long now that I think many have grown tiresome of repeating a similar process over and over again and I'm sure many people here can relate to that feeling. Along with that there's also been a very huge decline in the amount of changes and updates the developer has made to the game, but I can't really say I blame him. The game has been running for over a decade now and it's understandably difficult to find motivation to work on something that is so clearly outdated, not to mention severely lacking in players. The history states that the player base is approximately 50-100, which in a way isn't untrue. There could most certainly be that many people still hanging around waiting for some miracle to occur, but on average there's really more like 10-20 logged in on a GOOD day between the two servers currently running. Why would there be two servers running with such a small amount of people to play them you ask? That is a can of worms that I don't want to get in to at this time.
If you took the time to read this entire thing and actually check the game out, I thank you very much for giving it a chance even if you don't stick around to play.

And one that is actually from a current server (Also underground):

Best of luck and please don't let the graphics or (current) lack of players discourage you from giving the game a fair chance, you may find you actually enjoy some aspects regardless.
