Another way to deal with it is through social condemnation of it. Sure the offender may be stronger, etc, but would still be seen as 2nd class citizen.
That's how the guard of "old money" dealt with people with "new money". It worked very well. You can be very rich, but if you have 0 class, you are still worth less in their eyes.
Making botting "illegal", would be the start for a similar condemnation movement as well as making a certain group of people, that only bots because it allowed, stop botting.
We all cheat according to our needs, more so than because we can.
As a peaceful hermit I don't feel the need to bot and if I did, where would it end? A bot for farming, one for mining. digging. chopping tree's and so on, to the point where it eventualy becomes pointless 'playing'.
If I were part of a faction however, with 30/50 ppl to feed and equip, would I use bots? In all honesty, I can't answer that but
probably, I'm afraid.
For factions the fun is in the competing and history shows they will use any means at their disposal to gain the upper hand regardless of public opinion. I can't see how that is going to change.
It's not that I'm particularly approving it and I agree there are higher and lesser degrees of 'cheating', some clearly more damaging to the game than others but I still don't feel comfortable slating those that do use these practices to advance when I use Enders and exploit the fuel, tanning bugs to make my life easier.
Also, no-one complains when buying better class products via trade from the bot users.
