Since the start of the kickstarter, nearly ten days have gone by... You've only reached 30% of your goal, What will you do if you don't make your goal, give up the project? Or try making it with a lower budget?

The Kickstarter is just the difference between say a January release (Full Kickstarter funding) and maybe a Spring/Summer release with maybe less features if I understand what Josh told us. They already have a pay-pal link for pledges up on the main site so if the kickstarter fails i imagine people can just move their pledge there....

This is how you run a successful KickStarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tal ... up-and-jam

Set your goal at the bare minimum needed to put out the product you envision, while creating stretch goals to give people motivation to continue to donate even after a goal is met.

Setting too high of an initial goal just hamstrings the entire process and you lose out of a bunch of potential interest/funding from people passing through who get bored with waiting. Don't get greedy.

I was more commenting on the strategy with regards to setting the goal amount.

Obviously no matter what goal the ToG guys set they would have greatly exceeded it. Just the idea of putting your goal a reasonable amount, and including bonus features for certain stretch goals above and beyond that. The way Kickstarter works makes it extremely detrimental to the overall progress of the project if you're unable to meet your goal.

Is $50k the absolute minimum it would take to create Topia as the creators see it? I have no idea. Maybe, maybe not. But if they don't meet that goal then they'll likely miss out on a lot of passing interest people who can't bother to follow the project once it gets unfunded.

50K was our educated assessment of what we needed to launch by March. On a lower budget, we would need to push the release date back.

By the way everyone, here is a brand new 12 minute video:

the kickstarter page says;
Our inspirations come from a wide variety of games, from the old school days of Ultima Online to the modern worlds of Minecraft and Terraria. We think Darkfall and Salem have had some great ideas as well. Dwarf Fortress and Dungeon Keeper have also heavily influenced our design.

you sure have the balls to name this "inspired by Haven & Hearth" and continue on your advertisement here.

To be fair, there's a lot of racist crap here.

Your quote doesn't list Haven & Hearth Tonky..... You're slipping. And even if it did, you see Jorb or Loftar around here lately? Nuh uh.....
