staying out of melee range is primarily a function of my water quality vs. yours, or being lucky with terrain. these should not be the main "life or death" factors in a fight

Make it impossible to regen stamina in combat

Alternatively, drinking could drain SHP. Grandma always said you shouldn't drink cold water when you're all hot from running ;)

You'll damn us all =x

I could have an alt with a sling sit at a
rock inside my village, i could use call
to arms on the enemy, my alt could aim
the sling and fire whenever combat is
broken

You could stay out of melee range with q25 water vs q70 water until you ran out or starved if you so chose (would take a pretty long time on 3rd speed terrain). Hell, you could probably run forever on 3rd speed terrain with q10 water if you chose, unless you starved to death.

No stam regen just leads to people running beside the people chasing someone not entering combat while drinking until the person running away runs out of stam ;)

If you get caught you should probably die. You're still ignoring the fact that it's extremely easy to stay out of melee range. Also, the length of the slow from hamstring could scale with a stat vs the runners stat. At least if you get hit with hamstring you have the option to fight, more options then you were given last world if you got hit running away ;).

Also, if i read your idea right, having to break someones defense to slow them would solve nothing considering anyone who knows what they're doing while running won't have that happen.

Wouldn't you yet still say, that being slowed like that is a lot more detrimental to your ability to fight back. What about having your defense drained entirely without damage the first hit (depending on the percentage of the defense bar at the time of hit. If movement struck at less than full defense, part of the damage can be factored in). This would let two good fighters tag team people to death with movement hits, while letting a single guy movement hitting another be very valuable (100% def drain) without making it an instant death.

Not if the runner aggros them himself.

this came up in irc before w7, and it goes back to the 2v1 scenario. i agro and fight the dude, but my buddy is out of combat, still able to drink water, until the opportune moment for him to join in.

to an extent, but there comes a point where enough UA delta overcomes any amount of "knowing what you're doing"

yes, but it still illustrates the fact that combat should not be a water drinking contest.

I had my defense broken 1 time last world and that was when i got trapped in a cave with dis. I literally never once had my defense broken in all the time that i got chased by people with 2 to 4 times as much UA as i had (even in some cases chased by 10+ of them). It wasn't for lack of combat situations either.

Anything they do to drinking also happens to the chaser. If they remove it, both parties have to run out of stam at the same pace. If they make it so u have to stop to drink, both parties have to stop to drink at the same time. So i really don't care what they do there (though i think the no drinking in combat thing would be abused). And making water quality not matter would make things worse imo.

Question:
someone mentioned that you have 25% defence while moving. if person A has 100 unarmed and is moving and person B who has 101 melee stabs the first person, will his defence be completly drained to 0? i thought i remember something about being 4x the combat being able to punch completly through the defence, and since if somenoe is moving, tehy have 1/4 the defence.... wouldn't that mean that a person equally as strong as the other would break the defence on a movement hit?
