Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

I really liked the RO private server scene, the game had a great atmosphere and for being pure grind it was enjoyable. My main complaint was that the world and setting was horribly underused, and the gameworld was little more than containers to hold monsters to kill. I scripted some quests and events to flesh out the world more but there was only so much you could do with it.

Screenshot to be on-topic. Opening day of our server, Novice battle royale at the Izlude Arena! :D My cat ears and tail I custom made, they fit most classes well and were fully animated (the tail would poof out during combat).

I thought about ro2 but i too prefer the PRO scene. I play ReBirth RO for years now and RO in general for about 10 years. Also casualRO. Aside from that I play Hokalovi Horse sim, Atlantica and granado espada. Here's my chracter from Atlantica. Bad powersaw bitch...lol

I remember playing atlantica, I actually had a ton of fun

My laptop at the time was so bad though, I'd miss like 3 of my starting turns because it was trying to load the battle phase haha

Same, but the balance issues early on in the PvP arena... :(

And I thought I had a crappy system. Think Atlantica is the last MMO that I've been able to run without any difficulties. There's been a few others that have come out since, but they're slow to load and stutter bad.

Have been thinking about playing again. They get the balance issues worked out?

though I've played since the day the game opened, i've never been into pvp, ive done it some in free leauge because you need to/have to a bit. But from the word of others and the community in general they all seem to be pretty happy with the pvp/arena system now. with years of updates. new mercs and so forth there has probably a lot changed since you played? But yeah the majority of the community seem to hvae think the pvp issues were worked out. And yeah, atloantica seems to be pretty friendly to older/less technical comp systems. Which is kind of strange considering the intense detail of the Atlantica world, one would expect a lot more problems trying to run it but there's not many complaints about it on that note. I guess that's one thing the devs did right, was make it look a lot nicer with less code or technical requirements than one would expect.

Dead Island aka "What The War Z (now known as Infestation: Survivor Stories) should have been."

I bought Dead Island and a bunch of other games from the Humble Bundle for a mere $5.00. Well worth the investment, I say. Even though Dead Island is officially a console port, with a little tweaking you can make the game playable. For example, there is no way to quick switch weapons like you would normally do in a FPS by pressing the 1-0 keys. Instead by default you must press the middle mouse button which brings up a radius window, and then you have to maneuver the mouse to select what you want. Now try doing this when you have several zombies rushing at you and your machete just broke. You're gonna have a bad time.

But like I said, with a little tweaking you can make the game bearable and start to enjoy the storyline and the wonderful game mechanics. You start off the game by choosing your character. There are two male and two female selections. The third male, Ryder White, is strictly a single player storyline (who I actually chose first without knowing) and it sort of tells the main storyline from his perspective. Ryder's storyline is easily completed with a few hours invested, and it was sort of a "sink or swim" trial. It didn't teach me much of how the game works, which is what the other four character storylines are meant to do.

The game mechanics are great, by the way. There are makeshift weapons scattered throughout the map i.e. an oar lying next to a boat or a metal pipe that you took off from a fixture on the wall. These aren't the best of weapons but can be used in a pinch. The real firepower comes from crafting and improving your own weapons at a workbench. You will find throughout the game "mods" for weapons, some are even given as quest rewards. These allow you to craft everything from makeshift explosives like a "deo-bomb" which are deodorant cans taped together which work just as well as a grenade with the same explosive results, molotovs, even machetes wired with a battery to make it electrical.

There are three types of quests. The main storyline quest which you follow to progress through the game, sideline quests which you can sometimes randomly find as you explore the area, and continuous quests such as delivering water to a thirsty survivor who rewards you with experience and money, and it can be repeated over and over.

Fighting zombies can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. There are many ways of dealing with them: running away, sneaking around (see running away) or kicking them in the face and stomping on their head until it explodes like a swollen melon. Don't forget to use the environment to your advantage also. A canister of propane can be used to clear out a pack of zombies in an instant, or even leading them into downed power lines as you pick them off one by one with your sidearm. There is always more than one way of dealing with a challenge and that makes the game fresh every play-through.

As you play the game there are opportunities where you can join others nearby, which then turns it into a co-op. This can be good for more challenging parts of the game. More often than not they will only slow you down and it's very annoying when you're happily playing alone and some random plebeian joins your game only to stand around and leech experience. There is no way to kick them that I know of, the only way to get rid of them is to drop out of the game back to an earlier checkpoint.

TL:DR version

Buy the Humble Bundle (at least over the current average which is currently at $5.15) and try this game. It's hella fun.
