I'd also like to point out that while the hypothetical losses will (hypothetically) eventually be replaced. They will only be replaced at the rate they gain new players anyway. Thus, they will still be losing a significant amount of revenue until they get that amout of players back. Even then, they will be that amount of players less than they would have been and therefore still making less money.

Wanna see my dystopian vision?
Our industrialized part of the world gets fat sitting behind a computer playing half a day, while working the other half to be able to pay games/botters. Asia and the rest of the world gets to do the "dirty work" of gaming 24/7 in order for us to be able to cheat. So? Yes, life's cruel, but we don't have the power to change that, or do we? I say, our civilization won't be around for much longer anyway, so I don't care and hope the RL apocalypse comes before this shit actually happens.

Back to our little world...
JLo can ban/kill/reduce lp on people who cheat/bot/(buy from botters?), but they won't, which is understandable of them. Monitoring logs is boring and playing Big Brother is equal to being a dick. Jorb might be into drawing dicks, but from what I've heard, he isn't one.

What other options are there? Spyware, fuck yeah! I LOVE it when some shady game studio's spyware programs infiltrate my computer and scan it. It's not a necessary evil, it's installing fucking spyware just to be allowed to play a fucking game. Privacy ftw!

My opinion is: if a game can be exploited/botted, then it should be. It's the devs' "fault", after all, that they made a part of the game boring or exploitable. If things go out of proportion, there'll be drastical dev-sided interventions anyway. As long as they don't, I couldn't care less.

To me, commercial botters and their customers from other games are laughable at most. They're fueling a mechanic that, over a longer timespan, will ruin their own game and (guessing by current trends) affect the whole human civilization in the end.

Also, is it really true that 20% of MMOers buy stuff from third parties? Because if it is, Haven will soon be profitable enough for its own asian poverleveling agency :P

The average person is so busy he no longer has time to play games so he pays people to play for him and he pays for in-game money with real money rather than spending the time it takes to get it himself. In hindsight it's very asinine.

I leveled that guy to 17, my brother got him to 72, and i got him to 80, then my brother geared him.
I don't play WoW enough to get anything done, but my bro does >.<

you right here is MMORPG forum but don't give botter or hacker to cash for higher nurmeric grade?

The only reason this hasn't happened is that HnH is too small for any chinese hacker to make money off of. :V If this game was as big as the others you can guarantee that there would be some guy with a bot that checks resource quality or something, hordes anything above a certain quality and then sells it for IRL money "$5 Unburnt Treeplanter's Pot q100+~!!"

Ah -sigh of relief- One of the reasons I truly love Haven and Hearth.

As for your 'binary code' comment, so are the other games, doesn't mean people won't do it, in the end some people see it as 2 options:
1)Work 2 hours to get the amount of money ingame
2)Work 1/2 hour to get it by working IRL and purchasing it from someone else

Most people try to think of it as a game but approach them as jobs and just don't quit even after they're shoveling off money to buy gold or powerleveling :/

Now that I think of it, paying for gold is a quite understandable human reaction to being part of a (virtual) society. Everyone wants to be the alpha dog. It might start out as a game to relax, but it soon enough turns into yet another situation where one has to prove his superiority. Especially in high-risk games like Haven where you can easily lose everything you have achieved.
