I don't believe that for a second.

Meh. It is very impressive I'll give you that. I could have a settlement like that. But I only play for an hour or two a day. And when I'm on, all I do is harvest half of my crops then log off. I never build anything because I get so bored of being a hermit. I will soon be moving to Constantinople though, I'm pretty happy about that.

uriel, you are a dedicated player indeed ;) But sadly, I do not play as long as you do. so far, me, my brother (Arthas) and our two friends (Liam X and Swimmer) are working on Cenaria (the name of our soon to be town). It is going well, and since Swimmer has a boat, we also have a small site where a little log cabin will be.

Purple = claim, White = pallisade, Blue = gate

I made the character that made the pallisades a fortnight ago and have come as far as you see in the picture above.
But then... I considered the time it would take to plow those tiles. Then pave them. The time it would take to farm the plants that would stop the character from starving. Then the time it would take to populate the area with buildings. And furniture. And replanting trees to get more wood because i'm walking so far to get that resource now. All the while spending even more wood keeping the pallisade up, and because of paranoia, a second set of pallisades which also decay. And then a soldier character to gaurd the place, which is basically starting over from scratch. The time it'd take to figure out where i am on the map because there are no localization tools available, and then the time it'd take to trade for the equipment i'd need for replacing that pallisade wall with a brick one...
And then the inevitable realisation that i've spent all this time on my own personal zen garden which is lonely and barren without other players to keep me company or populate my buildings with activity and stop them from decaying. So i let players in and, what's this, my shit has been stolen, broken, and griefed and needs replacing and repairing and undoing while i was asleep one night or otherwise unawares?

And some of you have the nerve to say "Not a grind" and "Not grief"?
I've left the gate open, so you can do this shit yourself.
The Dwarf is making a plaintive gesture. He doesn't really care about anything any more.

You just reminded me of Avu. Criticizing players on their style. Not everyone needs to do everything just right. Games like these are designed for enjoyment. He may be doing it "Wrong" but at least he is having fun, no?

if you read his post, looking past anything i might deem a suboptimal way of going about things, it seems pretty clear that he is not having fun, hence "doing it wrong".
