Are you sure that you are still alive? The lightnings mean that he used call down the thunder, which again means he already aggroed you. Once you are agggroed you cannot log out anymore unless the other person drops combat.

Hmm...the combat tab didn't show up at all. Could the fact he "attacked" just as I logged in have something to do with it?

It is possible, since some graphics take longer to load than others. Lets hope for you that he only aggroed a boar
