Suggestion:
Start smaller.

Another thing about size:
There is really no need to go for different planets (esp. in case you want FPS style client).
Earth for example is quite big, and contains enough diverse areas so 8 billion people are able to exist there.
So one planet is already way enough space for some thousand online users.

Another addendum:
Start with building small, rough and ugly prototypes covering the various parts of gameplay and test if it is actually FUN to interact with them.

Mhh, the concept isnt done by far, and the most 'typically this game' objects and textures arent there yet.
I cant say if it will be alike EVE online, I never played it. Thanks for the advice, and I'll check EVE to see if I can expect copyright claims if I make the game like the concept is now <<

1)You can program and can already show them a lot of the work done proving yourself capable and having initiative on the project.
2)You can draw and can already show a good deal of the artwork.
3)You've known the person a while.

A game design document also helps even if it's a shitty one, just a way of collecting all your thoughts and saying "I know what I want to do, this is it, now I just need to make it". :)

these are the main reason why I turned him down in game when he asked me. hes not very far along and he doesn't know the first thing about coding a game. Sorry mate truth hurts sometimes.

It would have proven your point much better and also proven you really do understand how to fight people and not only how to slaughter helpless sheep.

Mhh, not very far, well, I'm learning pretty quickly and I can make most models the game needs (working on a realistic human now), apart from that, there's a concept, sure it could be polished up a bit, but its a base to start off. Then I need things like a server, client etc, but I'm no coder indeed. I find it somewhat odd however, that a non-programmer couldnt recruit programmers?
Anyway, I'm not too far yet, no, but this has been running from last saturday. Its going pretty quick, imo.

3d, mmo, fps, small dev team. doomed to fail unless your team REALLY wants to work for free for 5+ years...
also, what i saw from your site, your models are just beginners work ._.
maybe you should go write us a 10-page concept of the game..

This.

Unless you use a commercial game builder engine, but even then...

UE3 is a good engine, just not for MMOs, and if its sandbox then it will require good servers, which cant EVER be free

Making an MMO as a first project is like learning to drive in a Formula 1.

Make a Space Invaders clone or something, and if you pull that off well you might be taken a bit more seriously.

Heh, I think that one is drilled in quite often, you go to any 'game programming' website with a tutorial section and there's tyipcally even a sticky on "WELL YOU THINK YOU'RE MAKING AN MMO? THINK A FUCKING 'GAIN! Can you make Pacman clone? Space Invaders? Pong? 2D sidescroller? No? Then sit the fuck back, get a book and learn that shit."

Also: "You better have 5+ years of experience before attempting it!"

I also hear you need quite a bit of networking experience, which should be obvious. Even a 2DSSMMO takes quite a bit of work, you don't just jump into it.

eh, well, i think they're expecting to learn stuff while making game, polishing stuff and adding content like in hah or runescape maybe, it just would take insane amount of time and will to make it, most likely it will be abandoned... less than halfway done =3
