Minecraft is fun because you can build whatever you can imagine in an awesome random generated world. Huge underground cavern complete with a lava death trap? Check. Castle built in the sky with huge waterfalls reaching to the ground? Check. Obviously there are some limitations but for the most part if you can imagine an inanimate structure you can build it. This adds unique elements to the game, not everything looks the same.

From what I hear Loftar is already working on a new map generator. Adding the ability to customize buildings is way beyond the current scope of HnH. But adding other ways to customize your character and village would be a good thing. The different hair styles was a nice touch, and seem to receive a good response.

In my many conversations with people who are all orgiastic over Minecraft (and yes, I tell them all to try HnH) Minecraft seems to be more Macro-management type game play, where as HnH is Micro-management (Nation management VS. personal management) Sure, being able to carve a fortress out of the side of a mountain, and put a dome of glass over it would be neat (yes, some of them have done it) the only way I personaly could see it crossing over is having timers that run while your logged out, encouraging even more personal alts to do such insane, but desired projects, hell, I remember that one guy who was running 5 clients at one time to speed up his production in this game, imagine that becoming a necessity. It would be neat, granted, and I may be looking to deep into it, but from the little bit of DF I Have played, and again those conversations, a cross between those two would flow alot easier, again, macro-management. Anywho, just my two cents on it.

One "simple" way to bring a little 2D sand-box minecraft into HnH:
Make different mineshafts yield stones of different hues (there was a thread on this long time ago, but I'd rather not dig it up.)
Anyway: Potjehs Mosaics thread

...on a side note: is there any way to mark threads as "Favourites" or something on a forum like this?

I think that if we had mining more like minecraft H&H would benefit. However combining the two I personally don't think would work.

Though I'm sure Minecraft is a good game, I must admit I haven't really understood what all the hype is about. Is it really that good? What are the features that you think would mix well with Haven? I'm just curious.

I was hearing about this for ages and ages, and yeah, my response was pretty much 'meh', might be OK. Then I actually played it....

This is all pointless speculation as J&L surely aren't about to throw out their 2D model and all the attendant art but...

@ the person saying we would be better with a more DF inspired H&H than a minecraft one, I am somewhat confused. What would this mean in terms of gameplay? As far as I can see a H&H that is set in a minecraft like manipulatable 3D environment _would_ be moving towards DF in that people could team together to make underground cities, etc.
