I'd totally be down for Pay shops in game IF they were only cosmetic, AND i got to design my own sprites so i could put a beak on my character.
Before you take insult to this post, keep in mind that I am simply a warrior of truth.

If they are tradable (and get real, if I kill you I should be able to take it besides hairdos, that's silly unless I scalp you and make a wig out of it , I'm all for that btw).

However, 'cosmetic only' is fine until you get money out of it by selling it to others. Or you end up being a target because people kill you for said things. You wouldn't kill someone for a wolf cape or wizard's cape? I would. It gives status, status means a lot of things.

Really I only enjoy it when paying IRL money is a workaround for something you can otherwise work towards, and is also cosmetic only. For many people collecting is it's own game, and they enjoy it very much. In Ragnarok Online I recall having every hat, when donations were brought to my server with 'special hats' I quit, they were donation only and despite being just cosmetic in most cases, they still hampered what I considered a valid play style, and still do.

I fully understand that it doesn't stop the others from playing anymore, but it means that if this is my play style, you are now forcing me to use micro-transactions to get what I want, even though it 'feels' like you aren't because the main people who play to kill, build, or adventure, aren't being taxed at all.

IMO (not that my opinion matters)

Select custom/special made skins/clothes whatevers should be 'buyable' as long as they don't bring advantages. They would, obviously, have tremendous worth, being unique, or almost unique, items, of esthetical value.

You can have a dyed black merchant's robe (cosmetic only being the dye), someone steals it now has a dyed black merchant's robe. Things for your hair, different gloves, different belts. The same as the regular items, in fact they were regular items, just dyed, and now they are 'tada' stealable.

The only exception being things like hair, can't be 'stolen'.

I am, but the point is if it's tradable it's stealable, and even if it does nothing it gives status.

Gloves arguably do nothing at all, I'd still kill someone or pay for some black gloves. They do nothing but change my character's sprite, that is purely cosmetic. But if they can be removed from my person they can be stolen. Such items are still cosmetic.

While you may mean cosmetic items unstealable, untradable, such as hair, that's fine and all, but anything else (again still being cosmetic) is worth killing for, despite doing nothing.

good lord Image

btw if you were to make something like dyes cosmetic purchases (and im not saying you should, this is your example) they would be bound to the player, not the items. try to give this at least a little thought

And thus it had degenerated into cake.

no righteous man raises his hand against the innocent,
a man need only strike another to make him evil."

Although it would be cool if they were item-bound.
