thank you for your input here, and you are correct. However this is irrelevant to the discussion at hand. Since trees do not decay, Nor would you want to put anything that you are worried about decay that close to a growing tree.

It is relevant though, in order to reach the last stage of development, a tree has to take a hit of decay. its harder for a tree to reach full development on paved land. it may nor be relevant to your experiment because you didnt pave under either of your trees.

wha wha what?!!

never heard of anything like that. The tree needs to get hit with decay to enter the forth stage?

Yes.

Anyway, I personally don't think this matters (as far as how you do the squares for planting trees). I grow trees a lot because I love growing trees, and I haven't seen a significant difference really. You just need to try to convert the squares to having forest tiles and get rid of the grass tiles, though. It's more efficient for me to have a forest tile surrounded by pavement because I can just quickly plant and go about my other business.

so ((58+58+58+58/4)+68+56+54+97)/5=66.6

wrong formula.. i've started a test, results in this topic viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12925

Two trees is not an adequate sample size!

I do agree on the Last stage decay part.

I have planted Trees in groups of 4 along my entire Tree plot. I have noticed their growth times betwen stages is the same (all this on same type of land btw) and only once it reaches second last stage, after that the trees will randomly start going into last stage. (i.e the ones I planted might hit last stage first before the ones I planted earlier).

And I have planted over 500 trees in Bevelle. Last stage is a pain.

yeah.. i hate it.. my trees trying to grow up from 4 to 5 stage during 3 weeks.. no results.. so i plant mainly willow and birch, cause they r fast growing and provide 1 wood block in the 4th stage

using formulas from the wiki. i determined that this table is Q97.

I know this is only thinly related to this topic, but I can't find the formulas you're talking about. Could someone tell me how to do that? :D

formula for tea leaves (and many other stuff) on herbalist table is: (q_item+q_h.table)/2
in this example it's: (q115_tea + q_h.table)/2=106, so h.table is q97
