I had been preemptively informed that the game was "ugly" and the map (world 1) had been stripped bare.
Despite this, I made the effort (weeks after having been invited) to find the camp some friends had set up. I then proceeded to stand around, trying to figure out how to do anything, anything at all. I was unsuccessful. I was literally paralyzed by the unknown, unable to manipulate the interface that stood clearly defined before me. It was the lack of suggestion that I should do anything that confused me, and that all the implements surrounding me were neglected and nonfunctional*. I didn't see any good reason to go into the crafting menu and build a stone axe, let alone to see the ingredients and actually go find a boulder and a tree. Then, when our leader actually instructed to me the actual purpose of the game -- to build anything and everything as you like it -- I found it extremely odd that you could obtain a stone by chipping a boulder with your bare hands!
Preposterous! This game makes no sense. That was my first impression. Cows that you can kill without them even seeming to notice, foxes that could walk through walls, digging up grass to obtain clay, hemp (lolwut), villages actually built by users (LOLWUT) and, apparently, murderers about and knocking on your door.
*This kiln is in too poor condition to be used. Everywhere.
