Also, maybe supplying the armor and weapons (just bronze stuff of a consistent quality) would be a good idea to try and balance it a bit. I wouldn't want to waste my good gear fighting in an arena!

I would not pay to watch a fight. (I would most definitely gamble on intriguing fights, though.)
I would not sign up to be a combatant. (It's just too risky as it is now, in my opinion.)
These are just my personal responses to your questions. The whole scheme sounds interesting, though, and I do hope you fare well.

I would support this if it had tiers. Like, 100-150 mc tier, maybe 101-200
201-300

sparring is for babies, and it can be hard to judge who won.

The fact that it is not sparring makes it too risky for contestants unless they are premade alts that are given to each matcher for each match and fought as equal stats.
