at first farming is fun and all but you can't catch up to it later on and leave the farm alone v.v

That was a general comment on something that passed by. And not really my problem if you don't get it.

and for the record I have not chopped any trees just for the meer reason of getting lp for it..

That was also a general comment, on some tree chopping suggestion that passed by.

There are more than twice as many people playing now than there were in world 3. Granted, some of these may simply be multiclient alts used to collect stones and do other tedious chores, but it sure seems like there are more people playing now than ever before.
If everyone hated it that much, they'd stop playing and we'd see a drop in players, not an increase.

bitza wrote:what i mean by pointless grinding is the initial startup of digging and building fires until you have carpentry skill, then chopping trees and making buckets or baskets for hours on end until you can actually goddamn do something useful, such as sit in a boat and shoot boars. can anyone honestly say that this is good gameplay? i would really like to see someone try and defend this setup.

I tried to address this problem in late world 3... We shouldn't have to grind to reach a basic playing level. You can do some basic tasks like building yourself a stone axe and a couple baskets, maybe digging for worms, go fishing to get yourself some food... I dunno, playing properly will only take you so far, and the reality is that most of us are clearcutting, digging soil, making an excessive amount of wicker baskets, and making unburnt clay products to dump on the floor for our early LP. Once capable of hunting, that becomes our new source and nothing changes.
Wiping the world isn't enough to create lasting balance and freshen gameplay. There are some interesting changes and all, but I don't think people should have to repeat useless tasks for several hours to get their skills up to decent levels just so they can actually play the game.

I think the game is still fun, and I am able to advance a little despite not hunting or grinding, but it is pretty slow and is clearly not the encouraged method of play. The reality is that most people expect grinding in MMOs and some of them even like the idea of grinding to get a higher stat/level to brag about. People who dislike grinding simply don't play MMOs. I'm sorta inbetween, myself, though I'd much prefer a game with minimal grinding and more actual gameplay.

Same here, besides some major flaws like the farming system. Most changes are for the better though and in a month or so people will have forgotten all about drive by shooting boars every 30 seconds for lp.

That people first have to accept the game is running at a different pace now. As soon as they grow accustomed to it we can discuss where the real flaws of the mechanics lie instead of bawwing about less lp/hour.

Nonsense! You can boat around for an eternity and not only do all the exploring you'll ever need but you won't be harmed at any time by the resident wild-life.

Also this. What we need is SHARKS. Deadly RIVER SHARKS. That'd help end the boredom.

I've got to agree with your sentiment.
My whole plan this round was to have a huge cow farm.

First day I played - death by boar.
Ok, np shrug it off - complain but get over it. I only have to work another day to get back that LP.
Next day, start all over. Next day, ride around for 7 hours to find a suitable decent q spot for soil.
Notice that 4 stinkin' ppl have moved onto my continent that took me so long to find.
Build up a plot - tame some cows. Take another death from one cow taming for my own screw up moving too quickly.
Death, well I've dealt with that - guess I'll go grind back to even again.
Find out seeds aren't working right.
Start harvesting blueberries to keep the cows fed.
Check the forums for a seed response - nope nothing.
Move my claim over to "claim" my space before these other ppl do - one neighbor has already got palisades started and lines drawn.
Left a pea behind in a field - once harvest time came of course someone stole my pea before I could login to get it.
Get annoyed that the seed problem is still there and stop playing for a few days just disgusted when I login.
Got robbed yesterday when I was minutes away and they even killed my cows. My lvl 10 cows that I was struggling to feed as it was - they killed and left whole...

I think the more I look at it that this game is just for hunters and theives. They are the ones with the largest voice - they are the ones that gear the best to fight animals and they are the ones that get the "adventure". Farming is completely broken right now and there are barely 15 ppl talking about it. Oh but you half the LP of animal hunting and you get pages upon pages about the "injustice" of it all and right on the tail of their horrible sling treatment. BooHoo it's so hard on the hunters who gear for being attacked unlike the guy in a straw hat who is so strong when someone jumps them in a field. That btw is sarcasm. What would they be typing if hunting gave 1LP like these lvl 1 seeds we are getting?

It's true that it isn't fun - I only stayed logged in last night to hide away anything of value on alts and move my claim the hell away from those other ppl that expanded all over my face and the robbers in case they return. This farming change has affected everything I once liked. I can't look forward to making a better quality furniture item, can't feed livestock which shit all over my little cow farm plan. I have nothing incrementally to look forward to. Nothing is getting better - just more annoying daily so if it doesn't magically get fun again I really don't see a reason to play but right now I'm trying to be positive and checking the forum for info - logging in and trying to do SOMETHING with some play time and keep in the habit of it. The fact that I took a few days off is a sign to me usually when I end up leaving a game. There's always that fuck this shit moment that you meet once then it becomes a lot easier to repeat in longer time spans until it's permanent, ya know.
