I just started playing right after World 4 started but I can understand this. I recently had to move bases and I miss my old base so much. The lay out was probably poorly designed, but I felt safe there. I knew my way around for miles, so I could go on long hunting trips without getting lost. It helped that many of the rivers were connected so even if you were lost, if you just went in the general direction you'd end back home. I knew where there were a bunch of boats stock piled from someone else leaving them there at an abandoned base so I could always get a boat if someone stole mine. There was no one hostile there, but then again there weren't many people there. It was pretty quiet, but I sort of liked that because I hear all these stories of people killing on sight and it makes me skittish when I run into people now. I knew where to fish, I knew a corner of the world I could farm LP without harming anyone's forest. It was pleasant.

Our new base isn't bad or anything... but most of the place is deforested, which is something we didn't realize at first when picking out our spot. There are signs of the place being filled with people, but I've only ran into one or two Hearthlings which makes me wonder where everyone is/what happened. The rivers don't connect like my old base did, so its much easier to get lost if I don't remember which turn to take. And for some reason, I have horrible luck trying to find rabbits here! >:(

So, I didn't play in World 3 or any before that but I can understand the nostalgia xD
No, I am not TLO from SC2. I just happen to be a petite girl in real life and thought I was clever. Apparently, so did TLO.

Aha! Remembered my PW.

Yeah... so brief history...

World 2: Brodgar - pretty small, badly designed, crapped up the central area fairly amusingly

World 3: Brodgar II - much better design, lots of activity, no outer wall, no iron mine, got raided early and crapped itself

World 3: Worlds End (Brodgar III) - iron mine, outer wall, no raids - better design still in having a square in the middle, but still a few problems, annoyances, internal tensions (plus I got bored and quit ^^)

World 4:....

Personally I like the thrill of _starting_ a city. I love the design aspect. Cleaving out streets and squares from bush, meeting lots of people, seeing things take shape. Not so much interested in the management of such a city. I'm got enough IRL commitments to keep me from taking on anything much like a daily 'obligation'.

That said, if people were keen for it I would be happy to consider starting a Brodgar somewhere.

For those who are not familiar with the concept, the past Brodgar cities have the design of...

1. Being open to allcomers.
2. Being consittuted by individual plots of land where you do what you want. Make things and trade for what you need.

Any new Brodgar would follow Worlds End in having 'sections' or 'suburbs' added from the initial walled section, joined by signposts. No shared farming to speak of really. Citizens do what they want in their own time (apart from helping to build city walls and secure totems)

(sorry, new post instead of edit because I'm at a net cafe and the screen was jerking around because of post length)

One big problem with Worlds End (the previous Brodgar style city) was that the trade economy using stalls had to be sustained by limited flow of metal in or out of the town. The only mine was controlled strickly by a security guy. This caused some tension, and I think turned off higher level players. Something which has changed since I think is that trade stalls don't need coin. You can trade goods for other goods. This makes the concept easier.

Remaining problem? I'm assuming village management has still not been sorted so that you can add/remove people via a list without them standing infront of you. If you are trying to make a city with 100+ members this is a real must. Am I wrong about this? Has it changed?

I missed:
The friendly neighbors.
The low occupation of hostile Russians.
Less noob raiders.
More animals. (MOAAAAR)
Animals that just ate your shoes.
Impossible swimming. (It's not fun anymore)
More loose boats to jack.
More valuables out in the open.
Mining that didn't confuse me. ;-;
My high Q soldiers sword.
My huge collection of rock lobsters.

The ability to knock down bears with a single hit, not sitting in a boat looking like a retard shooting little stones after em.
