mmm, Why not ... Sometimes (actually almost always) a takes more than one practical example to proof that there is no failsafe against random acts of Chance.

Sometimes you have to take risks to make progress. It was a calculated risk based on what knowledge we have about tectonics/seismology (as well as all the other sciences of relevance). To say it was bound to happen is to say everything is bound to happen![]()
Anyway, good luck to anyone living in Japan or who has relatives/friends/etc. there. Hopefully the casualties will be minimal, and the nuclear plants come out standing...
But, nuclear power is a terrible technology.
