if you don't buy swimming, you're restricted to the North East section of the world. There should probably be a toggle for swimming, in case of accidental clicks and such, I went into deep water trying to gather clay also, but thats just because my mouse has random spaz movements across the monitor.

I'd think linking swimming to your constitution, I mean where you can't even buy the skill until you have the stats to cross a small river, might be a nice idea, but then there are probably better solutions.

Jackard, with every post you make, it becomes clear to me how much of an asshole you really are. Before, I thought you were cool, but now you're just a twat. I mean, you're acting all high and mighty and smart because you haven't drowned yet, but I bet if you did, you'd be pissed off.

I read these forums religiously for the past week and a half, waiting for the new map announcement. When it came, I read everything twice, three times, and I knew that swimming was dangerous. I didn't know it was fucking DEADLY, I never thought water could kill a man so fast, seeing as the game is quite realistic and I thought it would follow real water characteristics.

All I know is, at the age of 9, I couldn't swim, yet I could still fucking float or doggy paddle. It's just stupid.

The amount of lag and how the mini-maps don't load also fucked me up.

The stream is too strong, why don't you think even bears don't bother going into water? Right, because they're smarter than all the drowning people

It might be "overpowered" at first, but don't you think in a month or so people are even stronger, so rivers are childsplay by then.
About compensation...it's an alpha, nobody forced you to play and common sense would suggest such things might happen. A failure in the database could erase characters as well and this would be perfectly possible, because it's an alpha.
The only thing the Devs should consider by now is a more stable server. It's obvious it cannot handle like 100 people logged in at once. I wouldn't mind donating a few $ for that sake^^

Nor me, i'd happily donate. And i'd much rather have the devs spend time improving on the game rather than reviving dead characters.

At first, it was a big shock for me, but when you think about it, getting a base with at least one of each building is enough to get you back up strong, so just enjoy and play. I'd rather the devs make the game more awesome than it is now :p

I'm not trying to whine, but a lot of people died before information was available about the extreme dangers of trying to poke water. Sure, server announcements, but by the time they went up me and at least two of my friends had already died and I knew a lot more people had as well. Now is when you will go "but Golbez, the skill description clearly says swimming is dangerous, and the devs posted about it!". Yeah, well, the information we had was enough to make sure most people avoided large bodies of water, but seriously, a four-tile river is nothing. That's four meters across. Most people could jump at the very least half of that.

Golbez, the same Golbez who shared his Clonk Rage key with me? Joel Risberg?

Cool.

Drowned just now. Was running from a level 7 boar, went towards the water's edge, lagged up just as I did and so my character kept running, directly into the river. split second later he was drowned, I had every skill except the black skills too. Rivers suck, I don't think I'll even be GETTING swimming this time around, and I was almost full change too. So yeah. Where does that leave our River Death Toll?

It's really not that big a deal. Once everyone gets pissed off and leaves there won't be any more whining.

Yes, go the superior route. Add new features. Ignore the problems that scream in your faces. That's what everyone else does.
