Why is this? Is there some strategic reason? Or is it just because lakes are focal points for people who want to loiter?

Good way to weed out the players that are not hardcore enough I suppose

Well I've certainly seen my neighborhood empty out lately. Everyone around me seems to be either dying or moving away. :?

But hopefully being a hardcore player isn't the only way to forestall death. Maybe, instead, you can also be a paranoid recluse. Maybe that's why I'm not dead yet...

Pshaw. He was probably just saying that in order to tempt people to open up their gates. J.M. Keynes was a notorious griefer.

Easiest way to think about it is that lakes are one of high traffic areas, I've seen 90% Of people I meet by boating and the others were basically big villages you couldn't miss by walking into them.

So the more people you can meet the more potential there is to also meet griefers (also a reason why griefers prefer rivers because they are aware traffic is actually higher).

Being hardcore has both killed and saved me.
Before you take insult to this post, keep in mind that I am simply a warrior of truth.

I'm sorry I can relate. I'm just lucky. Though if I would suggest something it would to join a village. I find that being in a big village helps me do what ever I want, except for pillage (but only occasionally).

I find it amazingly refreshing that in Haven and Hearth there is gender equality. You're no more likely to survive random raiders as a female than as a male.
