Getting Base App's up high is not that hard if you get your food organized right away. Skill's to be able to see it....IDK. But, the more you do it the better you get and Q not being the biggest factor, just may work...if you could only find a way to kill the macro-bot moder's ability to add the macro in the first place. I don’t know much about the macro-bot stuff as I just play the game for fun, not to cheat my way to the top.

IMO resource spots should be obvious. Finding them should be the easy part, holding them should be hard.

Absolutely, there are arguments to why it would be better if the "resource heightmaps" are move visible than today.
One is that it would be a pointer to which (abandoned or not) villages to wage war on or simply trespass/vandalize, than it is today.

I would suggest a class of new Dowsing Rod-style items, one for each resource map, so you basically have to explore your surroundings at least one time for each resource, but when you hold the Claydowser, it is trivial to see where the clay quality gradient is rising (shaded terrain or whatever).

(Maybe the dowsing gear require huge inventory space, so you can not easily carry all four around for easy swapping between them, or maybe this is unneccessary. Would such a system lend itself to dowsing bots too much, or should writing an explorer bot like that be rewarded?)

Explorer bots are borderline AI doubt anyone will bother even the very few that can pull it off. And besides exploring shit gets you curios now so it's not a total tragedy if you go looking for resources. It's the fucking dig every screen that kills it for me.
