in order to stem the tide of alts, would it be possible to make it so that curio's don't fire unless the toon is actively doing something for at least , say 20 minutes? Meaning if the character is just sitting there for 20 minutes, curios won't tick down. But if they are cooking, hunting/mining for at least 20 minutes every day, their curios will happily tick down and fire. For mains, this wont be ANY problem what so ever, but for people trying to run massive alt factories, it becomes a huge pain in the ass.

Every complaint I have heard is about the ease of generating alts once you have the where-with-all to make top end curios in bulk. Log them in for 2 minutes, stack in the curios, log out. Rinse and repeat the next day. But having to actively PLAY that character for 20 minutes a day changes that alot. I guess there are ways around this as well, but it's at least a pain in their ass and a time waster for them. Having to play all their alts for at least 20 minutes means they spend less time on their mains.

You could also monitor IP addresses and make sure that no comp is logged in twice. I know that suggestion is a little sketchy, there are ways around it. And those that play from behind a router with friends would get punked. I guessa it all gets down to finding a balance that regular players can live with and the prevention/hinderance of alts/bots. Make it very hard for alts, and some one who plays by the rules will get steamrolled. To slack and every Tom, Dick and Harry will be running bots/making alts.

Best way to do it in my opinion, is make the game govern itself, you don;t actively play it, your curios wont do a damned thing for you and you wont get ANY LP. Actively play the game, and you won't notice a bit of difference from what it is now. Limit accounts to 1 or 2 characters, and one account per email address. Just make it as hard as you possibly can to make it so those people that want to make alts have as much hassle and problems as possible without affecting regular players.

Dunno if any of this makes sense, but I hope it does.

I didn't read your full post TBH, problem with IP's is that if multiple people in the same house play haven and hearth.... that becomes a problem. Playing an alt for 20 mintues isn't that hard to especially seeing as you can just chuck on FEP/wood cutting grinding bot and problem solved.

New system is definately better, it really opens up all aspects of the game, you are rewarded for every action you do still, just in a differnt way, be it Materials or time to socialize with your fellow hearthlings. =)
