Dwarf Fortress isnt a permadeath pvp mmo. a smaller, less fanatical community is only natural

The real problem is that loftar has designed a new system for object handling serverside which will require the reimplementation of an epic boatload of things. Basically the game needs a pretty major redoing from the ground and up. The new system is awesome and the old system(s) suck ass in comparison. The game also suffers from a fair amount of cruft -- legacy artifact functionalities that have been built up and accumulated over time -- that is hard to remove without a full overhaul.

Knowing that we will be discarding a whole lot of our present code base, building on it does not seem like the best use of our time right now.

We aim to make Haven all it can be, we just have a few things we need to deal with first.

may be you need a help? a few more programmers would be good.

The programming effort may largely go wasted (but only if he's not writing proper modular code with the magic of OOP :P) , but the design and the sprites won't. And since it's all Loftar's fault anyway, why do you care if he has to do the same job twice?

This is the best thing I've heard since bmjclark's mom said yes to that third finger.

I'm glad this game isn't being abandoned. Here's hoping that the future is soon.

1. Can you write a big blogpost-kinda-thing on that? We don't get to see inside the development of H&H much.
2. New map gen plox, including proper z levels

Hmm... I wonder what it would be like if loftar changed the attack delta formula back to (AW / BW) / 2, instead of SQRT(AW/ BW) / 2.
