I was referring to your complaints about the graphics.

Try UnReal World RPG http://www.jmp.fi/~smaarane/urw.html

although is not free, you can have it for as low as 2 euros, which for me was a bargain considering all the time I sank into it... It doesn't get more survival than that, it's not uncommon to have to resort to cannibalism to survive the first month.

The graphics are meh, but nowadays that doesn't mean anything, when DF, H&H and URW can provide more enjoyment than the call of duty flavour of the year for a fraction of the price (or even none)

Eh, I've sort of grown out of games that I can't really show my accomplishments to anyone (offline).

You are everything wrong with gaming

Not really, I've played many offline games and I've enjoyed them all but when I come home at the end of the day I like having a player-base to discuss/play the game with me

If you played Dwarf Fortress and were okay with the ascii art. Then NetHack might be good. Its like Rogue Survivor, or Rogue Survivor is like it or they are both Rogue-likes either way, its not as hard as DF is to learn but it has real depth and the random generator allows you to have fun over and over again. Plus you said you liked being able to show accomplishments, they have tournaments every so often so you could easily compete in those even if you don't get on the leader boards you still get little trophies if you ascend, the final goal of the game, if you do it with multiple races/class and such.

Beyond that. Kingdom of Loathing always deserves mention its simple but funny and has some decent depth in its mechanics and has both a leaderboard system and a trophy system so that will fill the achievement niche.
Speedrunning games is always a way to show your accomplishments in a single player game. Nothing like beating OoT in an hour. http://speeddemosarchive.com/ is where you should start for that.
Everyday the same dream is good for a bit, though I do mean bit it artsy so its more interactive story telling then game but its good: http://www.molleindustria.org/everydayt ... dream.html
The Stanley Parable: Its really good and its free if you have half-life 2, its a mod. Its a really good commentary on decisions in a game and non-linear storytelling it really gives you an idea on how much each decision adds to the game.
World of Tanks I've heard is alright.

Anarchy Online is good if you want to increase your e-peen size by "twinking" a char and rolling over things like a truck. Or just play normally and have fun. A steep-ish learning curve with the skill system if you don't pick through guides I guess.
It's free to play and has expansions if you feel like wasting money on them EVERY MONTH.
Playerbase is consisted mostly of mature people, you have orgs (organizations) in place of guilds, helpful community (ARK-s always visit each an every single new player and ask you if you need help, offer guidance and whatnot, admins on patrol 24/7, you can report people for being fucktards, etc).

It's a great MMO and you should be ashamed of yourself for not playing it sooner

Played it sooner... was such a lagfest it was completely unplayable in some parts of the game. I've been debating on trying it again, but the whole expansion thing kind of puts me off.

What is it it with Funcom? They have such great game concepts and then fail to launch anything playable? I'm not saying they don't get things fixed, just seem to have launch problems. Maybe they'll have that fixed when The Secret World launches. (Kinda looking forward to that one... love conspiracy theory stuff)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
