The best way to learn this kind of game, where nothing seam obvious to begin with (even if it is in fact, everything is like right, left and shift click) is to watch some you tube videos. That's how i learn few of the most "strange" games like H&H, dwarf fortress and many of the same kind. Videos make it a lot more easier to understand, than written explanations. I know i needed just a few min video to catch H&h thought, just to learn how to interact and got off your boat (this one made me mad back then). Sorry i don't have vid, but i'm sure a 1min research will get you all you need.
