The government IS the problem. This is not a democracy, it is a republic that requires hundreds of thousands of dollars to run for any office where bribery is not only legal, it is the norm and required to pay election costs.
There are 4 fatal flaws with the US government:
1) Political parties: It's not republicans vs democrats, political issues are not that black and white.
2) Lobbyists who commit bribery: Who cares what the people want if I can make a fortune pleasing corporations?
3) The costs of running for political office: It costs hundreds of thousands for congressmen and nearly a billion dollars for most presidential candidates. This not only forces politicians to get their money back via lobbyists, it creates an environment where all politicians are apart of the upper class.
4) People simply aren't educated: There's no source for unbiased news to give to the common citizen. Most people choose a side and vote for whoever labels him or herself a democrat or republican.
No, what you are doing now is making assumptions of human nature. Its not so black and white as saying people are good or people are bad. The prevailing philosophical thought throughout our development as a nation has been that people are inherently bad (greedy), but does it make it true? Is it true because some French guy thought it was over 200 years ago? Their are plenty of unselfish and selfless human beings, even in the U.S. We do live in a culture that promotes greed. Evidence is all around you.
Now onto your 4 points:
1) I partly agree with you here. I agree with you that having only two parties does not represent the interests of the majority. I disagree with your statement: "political issues are not that black and white." I don't disagree with what you're saying here explicitly. I disagree with your implications that democrats and republicans are two completely different things. I have found that the two parties are, in fact, the same thing; two sides of the same coin, if you will.
On points 2), 3), and 4), I became confused on if you were trying to refute me, or if you were agreeing with me. Since these points, which I agree with, are in the post you are replying to. Did you miss them?
In closing, I'd like to point out that it is so easy to blame others for our faults and problems. The majority eats it up (remember the nazis?). People don't like to think that they could be part of the problem. Its in our passive acceptance of how the government works now, that the government is allowed to operate that way. So, while we STILL HAVE the power, we need to make a change. Tomorrow will be too late. The government IS NOT the problem! Sheepism IS THE PROBLEM!
