I think grinding and the curio system sucks. Grinding is unfair to those who bot (and as someone stated, you will never stop botting). Curios is too easy. There are many days I log onto my hunter and forager just long enough to add curios (time issues as of late). All I can say is that there may not be a grind or curio solution, maybe a brand new way of doing things in Salem, not grinding nor what we think of the current HnH curio system, would be a good solution to solve the problems of both past and current HnH systems. Don't assume that in Salem it will be anything like HnH. ;)

Don't make an assumption it's going to be much different, either. Remember the curio system came out after they already started working on Salem. It was a hasty release that had already been planned, but like all things hasty, suffered from shortsightedness.

If it could have used another 3-4 months worth of work, yes. Instead of that, they were already going into full time development on Salem.

the system in salem isn't curios. it's inspirationals. there are differences. salem handles it better, imo.

Not really, as you need specific items to get specific numbers. Also resetting progress when you make progress? This salem system was kick in darkness from devs side. I just hope they were drunk when they implemented it and they will fix it, now it's just "curio" grindfest.
It's even worse than this currently in HnH.
I wrote simple steps to fix current curio system. It would not fix everything, but majority.

Going to have to agree with Sabinati on the inspirational system. I'd like to know what your idea of a grindfest is compared to actual mmo mechanics if you consider inspirationals grinding. If actively exploring and producing items to move towards a goal is equivalent to sitting in a spot hunting the same creature over and over again in your books then your opinions are more than kind of meaningless.

If an activity is repetitive enough it crosses the line into grinding. I don't think all forms of grinding are bad.

That's one thing that has always interested me about the term. Where does one draw the line? When does an activity become a grind? I also don't think grinding is inherently bad. Farming should be boring. I grew up in a small town in Texas. I had some friends who did farm work. That shit was boring. It's boring. I can't say it enough, really. So if you're bored of doing a boring yet necessary thing, just don't do it. It's all a choice. That's why I didn't really understand the argument against the grind in Darkfall. I mean, I have to admit that it was kind of grindy, lots of .1% skill up! Bullshit. That sucked. It was a choice, though. I simply chose to have a mid-level, mid-power character because I'd rather do something fun.

The world needs janitors just as much as it needs CEO's. That's something people don't seem to understand, in real life and in mmo's. Not everyone has to be maxed out, especially in a game like h&h. Not everyone has to be a psycho killer with 4000 strength. It's nonsense. I had a shit ton of fun with an average (if not below average) character.

Part of me doesn't like the curios system and the other part just doesn't like the players who made it necessary to implement it. Why play a game if you're going to actively try to avoid playing it by botting or abusing game mechanics? What's the fucking point? To be the best? To kill other players who also haven't had to play to make their character a boss? Who gives a shit.

To be honest I kind of like the Curios system in theory, just not how it is in Haven. I'm so curious about how it's been implemented in Salem that my dick just might explode. If the curios system was more active I might even like it. It just lends itself too much to using alts and not having to actually play the game to have a good character. Part of me says fuck stats all together, make us all have equal stats and run the game off skills alone. That would fix a lot and would be the most sandbox and free solution possible.
