I listen to and play lot's of metal... anything from Iron Maiden, or Black Sabbath to Cannibal Corpse, or Death. I have found while playing haven and hearth, some Primordial always compliments it very well, ( or on some occasions .. Hold The Heathen Hammer High, by TYR)... But when it all comes down to it... I hail Akercocke! As of late I have been completely enraptured by songs off of "Rape Of The Bastard Nazarene", " Words That Go Unspoken... Deed's that go Undone" and "Summon The Antichrist". To anyone of any familiarity with the metal genre, go.. heed the call! Youtube some "Verdelet" and see what you think?

I listen to just about anything besides rap and country. (some country ever so often isn't too terribly bad though.)

Now, what I actually enjoy listening to is Punk, Punk-rock/pop, Metal, Metalcore, Post-Hardcore, Thrash Metal, you get the idea.

Some bands that fit under those categories are:

I listen to a lot more bands than just those though (and I generally stick to the metal side of the spectrum )

Most stuff I listen to would have the label "indie" somewhere in its description I guess. Mostly Indie-Pop/Rock, some electronic music (like the stuff that trav mentioned), coming back to metal every now and then (mostly when I am drunk in front of my computer). Sometimes Jazz or classical music to accompany my morning coffee. But it really changes every week with new stuff I discover and get addicted to (musicwise).

Some of my alltime favourite bands maybe: Archive, The Dears, The Divine Comedy, Arcade Fire (!!!), Final Fantasy (no, not the game soundtracks, although those are amazing too), The Decemberists, Moloko/Roisin Murphy, Dresden Dolls, Gorillaz/Damon Albarns other projects and now that I see it in the post above Bright Eyes/Connor Oberst too....well I could go on and on.

€dit: Alltime favourites might not be quite right, because those were all more or less modern bands. Will just mention The Doors here for being the most influencial and exceptional band I ever heard, but won't go deeper into all the other old stuff that affected me.
