Well,
once upon a time, consoles were still better than PCs for the purpose they were dedicated to, however. These days, that seems to be a long time ago, though.

Except it's really not. RAM is pretty much free these days. Last time I upgraded my own PC -- which is now more than a year ago -- I stuffed it with 16 GB RAM simply because "why not", and I'd be very much surprised if the new XBox doesn't turn out more expensive still.
Just look at the rest of the hardware, as well. While detailed specs haven't been released yet, the CPU is boasted as an AMD APU, which means it's most likely a Bulldozer derivative (enjoy your shared FPUs), which in turn means that it won't even be able to compete with e.g. a Core i7
now, let alone in a year or two. Not much is said about the GPU, but if the PS4 is anything to judge by, it will be outperformed by current-generation (which will be past-generation by the time the PS4 or the new XBox are actually released) PC video cards by almost a factor of 2.
Which leaves the reason for playing games on new consoles pretty much at them being EAs preferred DRM platform.
I don't even hate consoles per se, but their development as of late isn't exactly exciting, and I can only hope that they fail miserably, so that their developers might take a hint.
