It's only ironic if I'm not actually always right :P

i should have been more clear.

He assumes they want to make a profit
He assumes they want to capture a significant market share.
He assumes they are a game dev company as opposed to two uni students just having a bit of fun.

all assumptions based on nothing. no where in his post did he imply that he thought J&L were a money hungry company etc etc etc.
posted super late after work.

I think that you guys (the devs) should really try to switch to putting out fewer updates, at least until the quest system is in. I think it would be best if you put out simple updates every third or fourth dev session, and spent the rest of the time working on more major updates that the game needs. (it also stops the work through the night to release boats situation from happening much.)

You have the players and they have lead you to ironing out most of the problems with having a playerbase, now get working on the core of the game again.

While I think it's kind of you to say that, we really to have to keep the development pace up. The simple math is that people won't stick around if we don't.

I think they can handle it if the pace worked instead of like this-

-work on a minor update and release
-work on a minor update and release
-work on a medium update, and release a really small update
-work on and release the medium update
-work on a minor update and release

and instead work more like this
-work on a major update
-work on the major update
-work on the major update and work on and release a small update
-work on the major update
-release the major update
-work on medium update
-work on and release the medium update
-work on a major update
-work on a minor update and release
-work on a major update
-work on and release a major update

This way things that are really needed like the new map get done without stopping updates for a month, and players get their flow of updates that they like to have.

Basically what I'm saying can be compacted into one sentence: Multitask working on bigger and smaller updates releasing the smaller updates keeping the players happy, while spending time working on more major updates that the game needs.

Speaking only for myself: This game is excellent, no doubt. Whether it's being put together by a company or a couple guys in their spare time, it's excellent. The fact that it IS being put together by a couple guys in their spare time just makes it surprisingly excellent.

To the point: As long as you (Jorb and Loftar) keep up the communication with the playerbase and let us know that you're still working on it, I will keep playing. Even if there are no updates for weeks at a time, as long as you let us know that you're still here and working on it and we still have something to look forward to, I'll be around. I think a lot of people feel that way.

I can't stress enough, however, the importance of strong communication. I guarantee it will keep people around.

Agreed with above post.

Just make sure the communication is worth while.

I also agree. It's their loss if someone is impatient for updates and unable to enjoy what they currently have.

Ahh, so what you meant was that I was wrong... That's not quite ironic in any way that I can see...

I think you also assumed (I love that word) that I was basing my opinion on a single post of his, or a specific thing he said, which is not the case. I wet my finger, stucking in ... the air, consulted the tea leaves and said what my gut told me to say. I don't need none of your facts and logic!

Of course then Jorb goes on to TOTALLY contradict me with his whole "we gotta dev more or people will leave! Oh noes!" post :P
obviously Loftar is the sane one in that pairing.

Yeah, seriously though, I admit I could be way off on mechanoid's assumptions, but I stand by my statement that he's a cranky pants because he's not getting the game his way.
