I would say, as a lover of unique 2D games, working on haven more would prove to be a much better outcome, provided they actually do work on Haven and Hearth more now that Salem's sort of on the backburner. Iron out more kinks, add new content a little more regularly, try new things to see how the community likes them (for instance, the idea of those simple traditions or whatever, where you can shake someone's hand once a day and get points for certain special skills that let you cut down trees more quickly, or other similar odd actions. I think a system like that would breathe a lot of life into the game, if at the very least, to make it feel more alive, and not so mechanical all the fucking time.)
I gave Salem a try but was largely put off by (mainly) the graphics. I went into the game thinking it was going to be a 3d copy of Haven and Hearth - dark and centered around death and rebirth. But everything just looked so fat and cartoonish that I couldn't take it seriously at all. The whole "bodily fluids" thing or whatever it was called kind of put me off as well. I didn't understand it at first and even once I did, the concept just seemed a bit odd.
Not trying to shittalk Jorbtar though, I could never develop a game, so I couldn't rightfully say you guys did "bad" or what you worked together on is shit. I just feel that Haven is a much, much better game, if not for the sole fact that 2D games are an unjustly dying genre, one that I feel should stick around. Not everything has to be 3D, some of the best games ever have been 2D, and i just personally find 2D games to be more appealing (but honestly it depends on the type of game.), but to be a pseudo-rpg roguelike, I feel 2D is perfect for this type of game.
Anyway. If it means haven and hearth will be updated more, then this is good news, imo.
