I was the guy that said howdy a lot.
Most people I've met so far either just say 'hi' and boat off or just ignore me totally
Are you named Dave in game? If so, we had a cocktail while we boated past your hermitage. I like what you've done with those tanning tubs. They really accentuate the rope and leather on your palisade.

I see an anthill and decide to get out of my boat to see what treasures might be burried inside. Foolish mistake. As soon as I get out of my boat 2 hearthlings come racing downstream in their boats and before I can react one of them picks up my boat (while still in their boat. I didn't think it was humanly possible to lift a boat while in a boat, but now I know better), and they take it to the other side of the river to raid my crates stuffed with dead bunnies. All I could do was stand their dumbfounded. It all happened so fast. After they were done raiding my boat, they got into their boats and started back down stream... while my boat was still on the other side of the river! I asked nicely if they could bring my boat back to me, but only 1 of them responded, and all he could say was "problem?". After this i didn't mind as much because I felt kind of bad for him. I think he was retarded. Poor guy.
After this incident I was a lot more cautious while adventuring in my boat. So the next time I got out of my boat and saw someone comming at me in their boat my heart started racing. I made a mad dash for my boat and picked it up out of the water. Good thing too. There was about 5 people boating in a group. I stood by the river holding my boat, waiting for them to pass by. Once they all got off screen I lowered my boat back into the water and got in. Then 2 stragglers of the group came by. One of them rammed my boat. I thought he was just drunk, ak I tried to go around him. He then rammed me again, and at the same time his friend rammed me from behind. I tried to go around them so I could continue on my way. But it was hars to move when there were 2 boats pinning me to the shore. I managed to get unpinned and started boating down the river, but these 2 people kept ramming my boat and trying to pin me. The managed to pin me against the shore again. This time i realized they were trying to do it on purpose. So i panicked. My heart was racing and I struggled to get free with all my might. I imagine it felt like they were trying to catch a greased up pig. They pinned me several times and I kept getting free. After a couple minutes I managed to lose 1 of them, but the other was still on my tail. I had to try to pose him too. I found a lake and just started going in circles. .. hoping he would get bored and leave. But he kept following me. We did circle after circle. I think h3 could smell me fear. I didnt know what he was going to do to me if he caught me. But I feared the worst. My ass hurt just thinking about it. I couldn't keep this up. If he called his friends I wouldn't stand a chance of escaping. So I decided to make a move. I quickly dashed to the shore and picked up up my boat. He didnt expect that and he froze for a bit. He probably thought I was going to make a run for it. That fool. *poof*. After a 15 min or so chase I teleported back to my hearthfire. I still have nightmares of that horrifying day. I thank the heavens I escaped before my gears were forcefully removed and i was made to squeal like a pig.
