You can use a palibasher with out cons as well though I doubt anyone but Painhertz would make one. You could place a claim over a palisade you made yourself to protect a ram, and not have to fear it being broken giving them a huge advantage.
I think you're right, I do underestimate bots. Realistically what's the timeframe that bots can pump out a palibasher? I honestly don't know.
I'd bet about two months with cheese setup running, there's still a timeframe for everything, and they'd have to have a machine running it all day.
