Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

In reply to the OP, this is pretty much why you can't be untouchable for the first week:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=17900

This game is PvP is everything you do, and if new characters were untouchable... well that would be chaos and break the game.

If there were some sort of newbie area, or single player mode, this would be farmville.

In Haven and Hearth, being killed and having all of your stuff destroyed every now and then is just a part of the game. If happens, everything is replaceable, so just learn from your mistakes and try not to make them again. Yes, new players vs old players is unbalanced, but why should it be? If someone has put more time and effort into their character than you have into yours, why should they not be able to kill you? After all, you both still run at the same speed.

Its true if you can build it once you can build it again
But his villagers who quit aren't really replaceable in the same way that his LP and items are

Not trying to argue the game shouldn't be like this, though.
People who can't handle the extreme losses don't stick around in the long run, but its sad that they had their hopes all dashed right at the start

Yes, I read that earlier. I completely agree. On that last bit though, untrue. People do not run at the same speed, in the sense that veterans can chase you down regardless of whether you run, because they can out pace you in distance, if not speed.

That's neither here nor there. A lot of very touchy people are treating this like a "MAKE IT EASIER! I DIED!" thread, and it's not. It's about the lack of options available to newer players, and I'm talking like a solid week ~100k LP new, to be able to safeguard themselves even remotely. This game loves its realism, why not have the ability to make something like caltrops? Weak, temporary defenses like roundpole fences are just as useless against the majority of players in this game as palisades are, since their is such a stark contrast between people whom have dedicated more time to this game, and people who want to begin. I sure as fuck don't want a hand-out. If you can't grasp that, you've lost sight of why this game is good, and are stubbornly defending the status quo of the game mechanics for the sake of personal status, and completely disregarding a legitimate point being made that you would otherwise agree with. It's a disgusting entitlement mentality, and you're yelling that very same word at me like I'm asking for your pedestal. Learn to see the difference!

I can run for about 4 hours with 40L of my crappy water.

Carry water and most people won't bother chasing for that long.

I think it has to do with most everyone that plays this game doesn't really care about making it easier for new players, because it wasn't easy for any of us, So i think learning the game without crying, or begging for crutches to make your life easier is your best bet. FYI this isn't farmville, you WILL NOT GET A CRUTCH, and you WILL suffer like we all did at the start, or else you can quit : )

oooooooooohhhhhhh. I see! No changes have been implemented at all ever from in-between world 1 and present! Yeah, it totally makes sense that no one should even think about changing anything in the future no matter how well constructed it may or may not be. It's definitely not a bullshit claim. I was wrong. Everyone SHOULD just accept the game at face value without thought because YOU had a hard time. We should all have the SAME hard time. I can't believe I misconstrued that to be the very definition of maintaining the status quo. This isn't at all like the tradition mantra the military indoctrinates soldiers with. It's important to follow the heirarchy and set ways of the past, because that's the BEST way.

... Come on. Real discourse please.
