Ooh maybe let's just stay with the current system where we can make hundreds pots for our training to become super melee masters!
Wait...

1) My post was not a reflection on yours. I agree that you should increase a skill by performing the actions implied by the skill.
2) To suggest that one idea isn't good is not the same as suggesting no new ideas can be good. The system should change, but I'd rather see something new and innovative from the developers rather than an over-used stereotypical skill tree.

Ouch, I had no idea there were resets. Is this just done with a major change or are "resets" going be part of the game itself? Though the game if quite fun it is also quite challenging and I (foolishly I guess) never had a thought about an MMO that resets. SO again, is a reset just going to happen because of major game mechanic changes or are "resets" a part/function of the game (like rounds in some little browser games). Sad to say I would never play games like that and can't imagine it being a continuing function in an MMO. I guess i can understand a reset due to (for instance going from alpha to beta) system wide game mechanic changes. I would like to know though what is meant by "reset" as when I saw this thread i was like OMG no, all my work...lol

They reset things when we have major changes in game mechanics. The last one kept our characters, but the world was reset and inventories were wiped because of changes to the way maps were generated and item QL levels were added. It's only happened once since I started playing, and it probably won't happen again for months.

Good to know, I knew I had never heard of an actual MMO with rounds (only some little browser games). I can understand massive game mechanic changes needing resets and then no more once it's all "set up as they want". Hopefully that would take but 1or 2 as the game is prety cool in the foundation just as it is.

Never heard if, and that's probably why...LOL and they are P2P at that?. I admit I'm more of the "big" games, Atlantica for instance, type MMOs. I know no one who would play an ongoing mmo who wiped peoples work on a regular basis. This game for instance has a lot of work involved in building up a claim to a legendary little settlement. I doubt many would play if all that work got wiped regularly as an ongoing function of the game. As far as that game itself, the forum has a thread giving both sides, that TITD only resets because its a story theme and once the monuments are build the story ends and so the server restarts, while at the same time, players complaining they stopped playing because of resets...lol

So, I guess thats a unique story game or something, as that thread says, but mmos do not reset as a natural game function. mmo players wouldnt bother working to be wiped no matter how good the gameis..lol

ATITD is not pvp... or at least it wasn't last I checked, which was at least a year ago, possibly longer

You may be surprised then...

You appear to have a different definition of MMO to me...
My definition of MMO is an multiplayer online game that can support a MASSIVE amount of players (massive being over 100 concurrent users).
Actually battlefield 2 came close to hitting that definition... maybe my definition is a bit off too...

While persistence is a common theme to MMO's I wouldn't say ETERNAL persistence is necessarily essential to be defined as an MMO
