I generally post only about my settlement when it gets wiped out, for precisely that reason :P

And well, I guess it's a great deal of luck, finding a location that has little raider activity, and/or avoiding detection.

We'll just keep trying till it works out.

Seems we're off to a better start, about to start our palisades.

We've planned to make a 250x250ish area, brickwall outside, then 5 free squares, then palisade...

A few questions about this:

1) Anyone got an idea how long the 10k ish bricks we'll need for that will take two people to collect?
2) Should we go smaller? In our last claim we had ~120x120ish, so about 1/4th the area, and kinda ran out of space, but with some management it was fine, but we were always a bit sad that we didn't put in the extra hours and made it larger, so now we'd rather go too big than too small.
3) Are 5 free squares between palisade and bw fine? Are there any considerations? We just thought so we can repair the bw if necessary, and easily run through the two?
4) Someone suggested two brick walls, with distance enough for a ram to break down inbetween, about how much is this distance? Is this necessary? (I doubt we could put up a fight if someone decided to ram us anyways, so doubt we'll bother with that)
5) Wagon Gates... We aren't sure if we should bother, should we? :P Also, we need to destroy a post, do we need to ram that? That makes it sound like we aren't even equipped to make a wagon gate at all...
6) What's the best way to prepare for BW? I doubt starting construction sites outside your property and stocking clay there won't get griefed, and same goes for leaving unsealed cornerposts around for weeks while carting clay there, so... use a Wagon with 20 LC full with bricks to transport, so we'll want a wagongate in the palisades even if we don't get one in the bw?
7) The hell is this? http://puu.sh/96bgz/1bccb0b48a.png
Edit: Okay, so it's a wolf, I thought that was a trollpost :P

And thanks again for the replies! :)

Large bwall will invite raiders. Suggestion would be to either bwall a very smal plot in the center and pali the rest, or to make an underground city like Cranny suggested. Unless you're able to bash gates I would advise against making a lot of effort to build long walls.

As for building the wall, so far the best idea seems to be to build a hf in the node and oath the character so that he can port back and fort with the chests.

Hmm.

Why does bashing gates matter?

Because some people love to do stuff like this:

Or simply just bashing your wall, building a new gate in the hole, and keeping the key for easiness of raiding. In that case you would need to bash said gate or lose all the work you did on that huge wall.

Or you could just seal the fucking cornerpost with right click.

Don't listen to venator, that's not an issue.

But, to answer your question anyway, Damage=(strength√)+(strength√)+(strength√)+(strength√)+20−Soak(brickwall has 70 soak)

I can think of a couple of examples for this as well.

Don't know, probably 1600 in total.
