I have to say I was disappointing by the archaic style & graphics, I was born just after such things were left behind - and in the area where super pixelated 8bit type things were scrapped so it doesn't have that nostalgia effect on me that it might have on others.

That said, I can totally see the rogue like randomization and concept of the game (and Fort Ballsacks concept) to be a blast for those who are fine with that kind of art style. Does anyone know of a game similar to Dwarf Fortress but has better graphics? And by better I mean anything close to Haven and Hearth will probably do it for me. Sorry to intrude on this thread if asking that question here is the wrong place to do so.

There are graphical mods available though that make it slightly more appealing (and at least for me, much less confusing). I've been learning the game using the PeridexisErrant Starter Pack and once you start to get the hang of things it's quite enjoyable.

ASCII graphics look much more appealing for me than any other graphic mods. It is one of those things that makes this game Dwarf fortress.

I can't recommend this enough if you can't read the Matrix. None of the graphics packs are 100% complete, though (at least as far as I'm aware). There used to be a 3D visualizer, too, but not sure if it has been kept up to date or will be updated for the latest release.

Personally, I have to use Dwarf Therapist to get through managing more than a couple dozen dwarves.

I should've listened to magicman, a bug got me, I can't brew alcohol, and it apparently it will be fixed in the next update :/

Soo, can someone tell me how to find a location that is "fun", because the last map was really slow :/ like how close do I have to be to a necromancer tower, or dark fortress for it attack me?

Temperature: Scorching
Surroundings: Sinister
Necromancer tower
Dark fortress
Go in war with humans and elves.

You will literally have 10 seconds to get underground and there will be no guarantee that you will have all your 7 dwarves in those 10 seconds.

Might want to take extra precautions this time around regarding the proper welcoming of migrants, hoho!

This is just my own embark, not official Fort Ballsacks.
I want to make a note, that dwarves don't take as much time drinking anymore!

Yea, but how close do I have to be near one, Right beside it, inside the same region as it, or a couple blocks away from it?

Same region I think, also if I remember correctly it shows on embark screen on civilizations or neighbors tab.

So the new version just came out with a ton of bug-fixes, save corruption, and notably less crashing. The thing is, it's not compatible with saves from the first release, so if we already started it may be in our best interest to either start again or wait until all the bugs are quashed and a nice stable release of .40 comes out so we don't have to restart again.
