The fact that it took you around 200 words just to explain the basic theory of how static combat works proves that he is right.
It takes roughly that many to explain even the quintessentially simple combat games at their core unless you're purposefully cutting information out. Even for say WoW you need to explain that there are combat resources such as Mana, Rage, and Energy, stats involved, battle stances, combat roles, etc.. Yes, there are games even simpler than that but we're not talking about Borderlands or Minecraft.
Static combat is common amongst low to mid level play and against all animals. That's about as far as 99% of players need to know. Otherwise the summation of the final step, "Being hit while moving and not engaged in combat with a target will reduce your defense bar substantially" encapsulates movement combat.
If you're asking for nuance and combat theory then you're asking for more information than most people are willing or able to give. Massive guides have been written about this subject not just for this game but virtually every game that involves any form of complex combat. Cheap tricks are also often bugs and exploits pocketed away by factions to be used to gain advantages against all other players. No one can or will explain those to you. No one is going to tell you that you can use alts and scents to teleport dead bodies in front of moving players to disrupt their movement so you can get free hits on them unless they're actively revealing that information to the devs to get it fixed.
