I've been wondering why people think I'm a douchebag even though my posts feel well reasoned and intelligent. After observing you, it's starting to make sense.

One-shotting an animal in real life would be about a 50-75 Marksman skill. Bludgeoning an animal to death with your bare fists would be closer to 300 (or more) Unarmed.

s/deer/moose

There you go, now you've got a good reason why you can't take it down by PUNCHING it, no matter how many hours you spend grinding teapots... OH NOES, REALISM!

It's not that unreasonable to suggest that a deer or a moose could be killed bare handed by an exceptionally skilled and strong individual. However, it should probably be decided exactly what the skill numbers are supposed to denote in real skills.

If we're talking realism, then deer, maybe. Moose, no way.

You all just made me waste a good two or three minutes of my life daydreaming about what it would be like to punch various forms of wildlife to death... And i'm not talking about some kind of intelligent "if I can hit it right in the larynx" kinda nonesense, i mean just going buck wild and flailing at a seven foot tall moose... Thanks a lot guys. Thanks a lot. //sticking out tongue and flipping the bird//

I was serious for fun.

No I don't expect you'd spend your time teapot grinding, I just meant to indicate that 90% of the crap you do in H&H is not combat related.

The notion of people going hunting with bare hands is to me, utterly ridiculous.

The notion of a deer charging rather than fleeing, is, utterly ridiculous (maybe a stag, but those guys are pretty bad ass too, killing them bare handed is unlikely)

I don't think the game should model us as a race of super men

What about that African dude that killed a leopard by sticking his hand in it's mouth and ripping out it's tongue?

That is a very good point... The majority of the time Ive played was not involved in combat. The only reason I took it up is so I had something to do when I was done with the farm stuff. LP too

The thought of punching animals to death like we do in game is silly, I must admit... I don't play games to experience reality though. ;)

The combat does need tweaking, and animal AI is probably the part that needs to be worked on the most. Time will tell how that turns out. I gotta disagree on fleeing like this though...

I do wonder. If you had your way with unarmed combat, how would it work in hunting? Better yet, how would it work in PVP?

Say what now? That sounds horribly interesting.
