No really, what do you want, mines that spawn next to each hearthfire?
Stone q10 axes (maybe better unarmed) vs metal? :Interesting concept of competetive.

Few people even have melee right now and would probably rely on unarmed moves in a fight even if they did happen to have a weapon equipped during the attack. Or even logged in for that matter.

You're looking at the "wrong truth". The one you should be looking at is that the person was 'active enough'/'experienced enough' to get 25*25 soon enough to get a mine.

___________

Seriously just go find a mountain and prospect it, if it doesn't hit search the place by foot. If you haven't seen a couple of mountains by now you didn't have a chance of finding a mine in the first place(not good enough at stumbling about quickly). Also don't bother prospecting from rivers, stick to the edges of super grids, because EVERYONE has already done so(from rivers).

As a matter of fact stumbling about randomly is SOO easy compared to what it used to be(animals walking away, less hunger, A LOT more food around, more resources, the defense bar, and speed boats). That it's hard to eventually not find a mine(you will find one eventually).

_______

Metal prices won't be nearly as high as they were last map as well, there are quite a few more "active" mines this map than last. It is really really hard to find a super grid that DOES NOT have at least one small mining town.

Isn't that the point of this thread? You didn't get enough PER and exploration and found several rustroot in the 2 first days!? Too slow!
Even one of the mountains had 3 mines... sadly 2 were copper and the other had at least 10 guys there.
stick to the edges of super grids
I'm not sure how to recognize those edges. :( And walking I always end having to cross rivers, don't have enough CON to swim that (fuck I tried yesterday and got my stamina to 30% just moving 2 tiles in and out, and now bread doesn't give CON!)
it's hard to eventually not find a mine(you will find one eventually).
Oh, I really hope so, if the map expands to 7x7 I'll be ready. The problem was just the 1st point, we have a live and all that.

Thanks for a constructive reply ;)

Land grabbing happens in real life. Look at the shit-storm brewing over the Arctic claim between Canada and Russia.
The way it is at the moment in the game is PERFECT.

It's good for the economy(People without mines will spend more time in other crafts refining their product)
It's good for gameplay(It creates conflict)

It generally is everything Haven & Hearth is supposed to be. The map will be expanded. BE READY. Those at the edges of the world, YOU WILL HAVE THE ADVANTAGE.

Caliku: do you own a mine?

Realism does not good gameplay make!

While trade is good, forcing half the player base to remain stuck at the bottom of the skill tree isn't.

While conflict is interesting, it shouldn't drive the losers away from the game.
Surprise.

Do people in this game equate "realisim" with "OMG NO! METAL MONOPOLY FOR ME, SCREW YOU NUBLINGS!"

Because it seems like it, and thats a baaaad thing when mining and metal products are a good chunk of the game.

And while someone chimes in with "TRADE LOL" you gotta remember, I can craft it, so can they, and since they are the "Vets" they can do it WAY better than I can.

So, yeah, inbefore "LOL WELL UR OUT OF LUK"

There will always be extremes on both sides, wherever you look. Making everything equal is not only impossible, it's just not fun.

Exactly what are you missing out on that you cannot trade for?

"Vets"? You know there was a character reset, right?

Vet players, not characters.
There isn't an absolutely need of metal, but it boosts everything a lot. Meat grinder, cellar, tankard-> metal makes half of the food avaible. Faster farming, and if you get gold of silver, well... Having no metal at all means you can't develop most of your skills as easier/fast as mine owners, therefore it's quite hard to have something they are interested to trade for. That's why ppl used to trade chantrelles: they are just a time killer to get, so miners don't even bother getting them. That leads to Peter's post: forcing half the player base to remain stuck at the bottom.

Silk and cheese are worth a LOT. I didn't have a mine on the old map, and I had cupboards of metal, including one cupboard of wrought and a chest of steel.

And some people with these mines are not inclined to foraging stuff either so there may be a demand for other things for metal owners. I recall making an attempt to get 5 metals for a mansion by trading 60 Chantrelles which I had plenty of, to Seizure because Warri is not inclined to forage around the 4 corners for the yellow herbs (not unreasonable either) and this was before the reset. You aren't totally screwed if you do not have a mine, you just have more flexibility (and more task) if you do.
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

Being successful isn't just about hard work and succeeding, it is also about picking yourself up when you fail.
