I don't wanna sound like a complainer but I am new only been here a few days but every time i turn around the system is crashing, is there a fix in line or does this happen all the time? I really like the game(except maybe losing everything if you die, I got swimming and tried to swim... well I am now working on my 2nd char)

ok, i just needed to know it. There could be usefull if devs can see the name of who builded what on an item, not only in this case but also for eventually use of bugs.

Rule one: read the wiki and see the DO NOT BUY @ swimming.

Maybe, but it certainly wouldn't be useful in terms of memory usage on the server. ;)

And, to be honest, I'm not sure how many problems it would solve. I'd guess that a vast part of cases would involve friends of the original builder requesting removal, and there'd be no way to verify that.

First and foremost, however, that sounds like a recipe for manual labor on my and Jorb's part, and I despise manual labor. I'd prefer fixing the bugs instead. :)

Well, while we don't call it an alpha without reason, it isn't usually quite this bad. :)

Well, yes, I can remove gates with divine powers, but I swear that every time there's a rollback, there are a hundred people who have just built new gates. Because of the problems of scale and everything, it's kinda hard for me to make some kind of rule to promise to destroy gates, because people might even take the opportunity to fool me into destroying the gates of others (and I cannot take the time to properly verify ownership for every one).

This is all quite interesting. The insight into the behind the scenes madhouse is insightful.

What needs doing to the server before you bring it back up?

Well, if it's a benign crash that hasn't caused any data structure corruption or similar things, all I need to do is attach a debugger and call the shutdown sequence, which will log out everyone and save everything. If there has been data structure corruption, on the other hand, I'll need to try and resolve it manually somehow before proceeding. There's no "template" for such work, of course. If the corruption is so bad that I cannot reconstruct the data, then I'll have to concede with a partial or complete rollback (partial might mean that I don't save some particular part of the map or some particular characters).

Clearly, the solution for these sort of problems is to destroy all gates on server crashes. No more problems with gates and keys.

Epic after-the-crash raids. :D Quick, get 'em while their gates are down!
