How so? lol

Mitigate damage done? If I hadn't hand developed Diet Pepsi, his loss would have been less consequential - yes? Bascially, I strive to take away the penalty of death.

At least that's what i've from his posts so far. Not really terrible to have a tutorial so new people can use the bots though really. At this point a lot of bigger towns use bots anyways.

Well, sure. Its not just him I have a problem with, but anyone who uses bots.

I still do not understand why anyone would use bots. If you don't like doing the "menial" tasks in game, spend your whole time (or as much of it as you can, I suppose) raiding to get supplies. I really have no problem with that.

However, I guess the desire to "win" trumps everything else, I suppose *especially* for people who are in bigger towns. This is rather lame, in my opinion, for the reasons I gave above.

Jester87 wrote:I originally started because my friend IRL started playing and had me intrigued. I finished my final exams and had a month of free time, so I made a few characters. I really wanted the game to be much more political, but my village got raided. I wasn't going to give up until I got shot while I was typing.

Now, I know the pvp trolls will roll up in here and tell me to go get shot again - screw em. I'm done putting time into anything but botting because thats the only thing that directly combats the pvp morons imho. My friend still plays, though, and I do enjoy some of the community. So I stay here making bots and music videos.

Botting does not combat them. If anything you feed the problem since you are training any newb to make combat alts easily and effectively, so he (the newb) can join them in their pvp activities. If you want the game to be more political, you should try to build a larger group. Its not that hard to stay relatively safe, even afk, if you build your village correctly. Nothing is completely safe of course, but the more friends & allies you have, the more hard it is to wipe out your hive mind ;). Individual characters don't really matter.

Losing a char without botting even still really isn't that big of a deal. If i died when the server comes up i'd be back where i was and stronger because of einhar in like 2 weeks tops, without botting. And i wouldn't even be mad about it.

Exactly. If you have sufficient numbers (around 4-5 players?)/organisational skills you can set up cheese/curio production lines so that things run really smoothly, and it is rather satisfying. I'm sure bmjclark is much better at this than me, but I am proud of what we did last world with my group. I think this social/organisational challenge would be a better challenge than figuring out how to bot, which will become completely stale the second you figure it out imo.

There are a number of factors that play into it, though. You have a solid, already established support network. Pepsi was my production alt. I could probably get him back to where he was in 2-3 weeks, but the point of my anger is that it was such a pointless loss. I refuse to take such big losses in such an arbitrary fashion.

Besides, you play your way and I play mine. You simply changed my mind about how I choose to play.

You being stupid enough to get hit with a sling changed ur mind about how u play. Also, it was redell who shot you, not me ;)

Then take measures to prevent them? It is true that the current state of the game lends itself to psychopaths who kill without a good reason, but you should take account for this. If you were killed with a sling then something is wrong.

(btw all times I died in pvp I am sure it was not arbitrary, the attackers got all my gear :))

You think shooting through a solid wall makes sense, so I can't argue with nonsense. Your second point is moot - you embody why I changed my mind / you are all interchangeable pvpers. You want pvp? Come play me in HoN.

Realism is a poor argument.

Anyway all this is besides the point. I would ask that you do not corrupt the other newbies, if you want the challenge of writing good bots, work on it yourself and with your friends, hell even share it with them, but let other new players feel the sense of creating something precious, instead of just cranking out newb-killing combat alts.
