It's has meaning within a LAN, because it is how entities identify each other on lowest level. IP is a higher transport level.
I hate you! Yes, you!
How does it matter when you die? Today? In hundred years? What will be left of you after millenia?

Everyone who actually feels like -playing- this game knows that no matter how much they play, there will always be a few assholes with way higher combat skills than them, purely because they cheat, and if they were to run into one of these botting players, there's no way they could win a straight up duel. Hopefully this matter will be dealt with by w8 at least, because it takes away from the feeling of competition a bit, and if I died to someone who put less time into the game than me yet had insanely high stats due to botting, I'd be pretty choked.

You seem to believe you have a privilege of being the strongest in H&H just because you waste all of your time in H&H, contrary to people who use their brain to reach the goal.

Why do you think you'd be able to do a living thing even if there weren't any "russians botters" when you have people who played several years focusing on only perfecting their H&H combat skills?

I never implied that I believe I should have a privilege. I did however state that the players that use bots to achieve their goals rather than, you know, actually playing the game should not be allowed such an advantage. Using their brains, sure, to cheat.

Botting might be game breaking, but the prices for curiosities haven't really changed and hearthlings are getting killed everyday at same pace like before. Just because someone has a cupboard full of flots doesn't mean the game is instantly broken as if a bunch of HUEHEHUE BRBR came here and hacked everything.

hide yo kids hide yo wife etc etc

I doubt even a small portion of these players have lost very many, if any characters at all.

Probably because they are sitting behind walls. Last time I went out of village in w6 i got killed by AD
Fuck AD, I was just a farmer.

Personally, I like the traditions/changes slider, the barbarian/civilization slider, etc. So I would be sad to see those removed. (Tradition could use some beefing up though -- More numen options!). Or, actually, just adding a Psyche benefit to Tradition would be pretty interesting (up to 30% like Civilization). But I digress!

Botting is pretty hard to stop because fundamentally a well written bot is indistinguishable from a player without relatively careful human interaction. The main techniques for preventing botting is just to make your systems too problematic to write successful bots for, "or" to make the cost * risk for the bot too high for bots to be useful. Or to design your game to make bots an integral aspect of it.

Personally, I hate bots because in the end, it changes what it means to be a competent player. Once bots become accepted and wide-spread, only nubs don't use them, and then to play the game without being a nub I have to run my own bots, which is a bit too much like work for my tastes in gaming. I really like HnH, but I'd like it so much more if I could just "lose" myself in a single toon, without having to manage a small family of alts (bots or not). Whether it is cheating or whatever is just a question of how you define the rules and how you want the game to be played. I know which game I prefer :/.

I am surprised, however, that a Per*Exp 2k+ toon is such a throw away character that people will bot them. Are you sure the problem isn't that the botting factions have such a lock hold on their territory that they can *afford* to run these sorts of bots? Would it be better if they had their 12 year old cousin running it?

P.S. Mac Addresses are unique(*).

Nope, forage bots are expendable as fuck. The backpack and traveller sack is worth more. Forage alts are just a by-product of wax quality farming.

This. I'm religiously attached to having just a single character, aside from key alts and the like. I realize that having 1-3 characters I'll always be at a disadvantage compared to someone tediously maintaining 20 faceless peons, but it would be nice if the difference wasn't SO severe.
