Don't want to get involved, just been following the topic and I had to laugh at this statement. There is a huuuge debate going on about nature vs nurture and you just completely ignored the nature side. There have been tons of studies that prove people are not the same when they leave the womb. This has been proven in studies where orphan twin or triplet or x children are given out on adoption, and all have a very high correlation in the grades they get, a lot more like their biological parents and biological siblings that they have never met, and very different from the people that adopted them and their non-biological family.
Just wanted to point that out before people start believing stuff written in heated debate on a forum.
Furthermore I think affirmitive movements have an opposite effect as it increases racism. Sure it provides opportunities for lesser classes/races, but you also aknowledge the fact that there are races (something which isn't aknowledged officially where I'm from) and secondly, you create a difference between these races because one receives different treatment from another. Which is why race should not be a variable used to judge whether one is or is not allowed to make use of a certain benefit. edit: Obviously this has an effect: Animosity towards 'races' increase.
Sigh, I had a lot more written up, but decided it would be better to just delete it all, an argument like this is best kept in cafés with a good beer.
