People need to be made crystal clear that that channel is far from being an official IRC channel for haven and hearth. It is owned by SomethingAwful members and it is them that do what they want. It will not likely be a neutral ground channel. This is particularly evident for a few things:

  • Delamore had declared that they will need to be changes to make change to ops and sub ops in there. Now when asked the ones that should be be ops, two individual had been prevalent on people's opinions, Exewu and DatOneGuy. Exewu is easy to implement and is understandably amiable to other people. DatOneGuy, however, is pretty much hated by a majority of the goons and, from what I noticed, is often banned from #haven. I'm pretty sure there is no way they are going to sacrifice their channel power to an individual that they consider as one of their 10 top hated list.
  • From what I read in history, it was originally just goons that are always within the channel. I don't know the rest of it but for some reason Pacho's client directed the default channel to synirc #haven which is the goon's channel. I'm not sure if this was intentional or a reason but now people often flood into the IRC through the client. That is followed by people going into the IRC channel through other applications such as mIRC or Mibbit. In any case, I do believe they are not likely going to sacrifice their right to their IRC channel as they were the original people and owner.
  • With the exception of Jackard, Delamore and other goons that I am not aware of that are not part of Sabinati's group, the goon has been put in a rather bad mood due to the complete wipe of Rage (ElGato they are not concerned with as he is on the top 10 hated list I think) and, judging from lack of event involving Rage, a failed appeal by Sabinati. So IRC reformation is a low priority in their to-do list.

So in summary, they are most likely here to stay for good whether people like it or not (I'm still neutral in the matter as this does not involve me aside that Rage has annoyed me a little).

Public Resources
by Delamore » Wed Aug 05, 2009 6:11 am

IRC
irc://irc.synirc.net/Haven
Run By: Delamore
Thread: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=900

The channel was made by Delamore and announced as a Public Resource for Haven & Hearth, therefor it should also be a public resource meaning, permanent bans should be extreemley rare or not accure at all on the public, especially not for personal reasons, if someone missbehaves badley (in the nature of for example severaley disturbing the majority of the publik on the channel and so on), naturally they should get a kick or a ban with a timelimit and be expected to behave better when they return. We all know the majority of the moderators are goons and the channel was also made by a goon in the first place and you are able to do what you want with it. But with the fact that the channel was annouced as a public channel for H&H, with that annoucement comes responisbility.

If you do not wish to provide this channel as a Public Resource anymore, i suggest it should be announced and removed from the Public Resourses stickie.

i know how frustrating it can be to try and stay cool and try to stay neutural as a moderator on a public channel and we all appritiate the work you all put in to keep a public channel up for the benefit of the H&H community to keep an awsome way to have real time communication and trading alive in the community. However, try to not step over the lines that defines a Public Resource, or it can no loonger be one in the end.

Yes this has been said multiple times and I am willing to enforce that. As I always have btw. If you're banned without a good reason (And I'm sorry, but the low IQ topic poster is staying banned forever) then pm me and I'll unban you. As I have done on multiple occasions. I can't see who's banned exactly, just IP addresses.
Timelimit bans aren't possible sadly.

now why in the world would someone do this without offering a worthy replacement

your disagreeing with how #haven is run doesnt make it less 'public' or somehow mandate its removal
