This is not an option.

I agree that they should, I call BS on not an option, but I guess this has turned into a more legit forum than I'd thought it to be.

Don't worry, you are not being singled out. See here in case you were wondering why this policy is in effect:

Go out west. In about three hours we'd found three mines. Two tin, one iron.

Also, Bog Iron and some sort of stone tools.

There really isn't any sort of stable economy because its simply a barter system.

And speaking as someone whose never had a mine, and only once touched a piece of copper at the generous expense of the owner, I believe something has to be done.

I haven't been around long enough to say what, but definitely something. The ration of people with access to metal to people without is VERY off.

Here in Georgia you can find enough iron ore deposits in someones back yard to fill up half a five gallon bucket. Perception could easily be used to find small nuggets, maybe panning rivers.

I understand why mines are scarce but as a newblet ya it sucks if you start late in the game. I'm siding with those that think it sets up the power struggles and moves an economy. Once you setup a house are you really expected to traverse hours away to find a resource... at the start you barely have food and can't figure out where you are on the map. Nothing of value to trade either, who wants your lvl 10 seeds. If you did get lucky and find a mine are you expected to move immediately on your scant resources hours away so it bugs me when ppl say to trade for it or search the edges of the world.

As a noob tho.
You get your points up high enough to see rustroot.
Then get the pot made to store it.
Then hunt all over the place and finally come up dry and keep thinking what am I doing wrong, this is futile.
So ya, now my rustroot gets sent to the ancestral worship.
Don't tell me to search a cave either, I have and around us people claim caves so I can't even traipse on their land w/out buying a dangerous skill for a hermit.

I did like that idea someone had of getting nuggets occasionally for expending the resources since I can get them from worship, maybe if every 10 unsuccessful prospects shot out a nugget things would get interesting.

wait... wut? my village has a mine, a lovely iron mine, and we've got plenty of problems, there are lots of things I need that we going to have to travel to trade for, lots of people we have to meet with. hell when it comes to production, ive got a quota to meet, and my metal worker just left. metal = work, same as silk or cheese or any other high end good and I don't have time to work on all this crap. limiting mines is a good way to promote trade thus improving the game experience.

as for the guy who has to trade for the metal, anyone who doesn't feel good because they managed to save enough chants, cave bulbs, or other popular trade goods to get a few bars of metal is clearly a fool who doesn't appreciate this game enough or is just jaded from doing it so often.

I feel as though I should point out that I created a thread about buying mines in the Apples for Oranges board. In two days I acquired a mine, and there were several other mines posted for sale in the thread. Honestly people, I guess I can understand if you are not lucky enough to find a mine from prospecting, but really, they still are not that hard. One person could afford to pay the prices listed in the thread in a week or two, let alone an entire town working for it. I for one greatly encourage the selling and trading of mines.

Yeah trade for metal is fine, unless there's at least a dozen of you, you can't really run one anyways, and as mentioned a dozen of you can easily afford to buy one in a few days if your that dead set on it.

I wonder why some people think it's necessary to really own a mine. It could be easier to make some linen and buy metal tools and bars you need with it than finding a mine, building necessary structures, securing it, and starting production. Especially if you are playing alone or with a friend and none of you has full Industry.
